Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This Kate Bush song starts with a sample from an old horror movie. Which song begins with "It's in the trees, it's coming?"

Answer: Hounds of Love

The words heard at the beginning of this song are sampled from the British 1957 horror film "Night of the Demon." "Hounds of Love" is the second track from the album of the same name and the third single. It reached number eighteen on the UK charts and was covered by British band The Futureheads in 2004.
2. "I still dream of Orgonon I wake up crying You're making rain And you're just in reach When you and sleep escape me" Which Kate Bush song with a video starring Donald Sutherland are these lyrics from?

Answer: Cloudbusting

The album "Hounds of Love" is a moving, beautiful, moody album that is divided into two suites. Side one is called "Hounds of Love" and side two is called "The Ninth Wave." The song "Cloudbusting" is the last song on the first side and tells the story of a man who is trying to build a machine to control the weather, told from the point of view of the man's son.

The song is inspired by the 1973 memoir "A Book of Dreams" by Wilhelm Reich.
3. This Kate Bush song that uses the sound of the helicopter from Pink Floyd's The Wall includes these lyrics: "You won't burn (red, red roses) You won't bleed (pinks and posies) Confess to me, girl (red, red roses, go down)" Can you name it?

Answer: Waking the Witch

This is probably my favourite song on the album as it very dramatically tells the story about witch hunting and whether the young girl being accused of witch craft will drown or float. It's a chilling song that moves back and forth between the accusers and the accused.

There is the sound of a helicopter used, with a voice telling someone to get out of the water. Kate Bush was interviewed on UK radio in 1992 and tells the story of trying to find just the right helicopter sound to fit the song and having such a hard time finding the right sound. In the end she reached out to Pink Floyd to use the sound used in "The Wall".
4. "And if I only could I'd make a deal with God And I'd get him to swap our places" Which Kate Bush hit song includes these lyrics?

Answer: Running up that Hill

"Running up that Hill" is the first single released from "Hounds of Love" and the most commercially successful song from the album and any other of her singles released during the 80s. It reached number three in the UK and reached the top thirty in the US.

The song was accompanied by a memorable video in which Kate Bush and a partner are wearing all grey and performing interpretative dancing. She is a trained dancer and dance features quite heavily in her videos.
5. This upbeat Kate Bush song features the lyrics: "That cloud, that cloud Looks like Ireland C'mon and blow it a kiss now But quick" Can you name this song?

Answer: The Big Sky

"The Big Sky" is the fourth single from the album and reached number thirty-seven on the UK charts. The song is about recalling how simple things were when you were a kid and enjoyed simple things, like looking up at the sky. It's an upbeat and fun song that you can clap along to.

It's accompanied by a video that was directed by Kate Bush herself that was nominated for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Awards.
6. This Kate Bush song includes fiddles and pipes, narration by her brother John Carder Bush, as well as these lyrics: "Never, never say goodbye To my part of your life Oh no, no, no, no, no Never, never, never Never, never let me go" Which song is this?

Answer: Jig of Life

"Jig of Life" is the tenth song on the album, on the second side. Instruments such as pipes, fiddles, bouzouki, bodhran and a dijeridu are used on this song and toward the end of the song, a poem is narrated. This is a poem by her brother John Carder Bush, who is a poet and photographer.

His work was also featured in the Kate Bush song "Army Dreamers" and he takes many of the photographs used for her albums.
7. "Peek-a-boo, Peek-a-boo, little earth With just my heart and my mind I can be driving Driving home" In which Kate Bush song can you hear these lyrics?

Answer: Hello Earth

This song is absolutely beautiful. It features a choral section by a choir called the Richard Hickox Singers that is taken from a Georgian folk song called 'Zinzkaro' ('By The Spring'). You can also hear a reference to lyrics from "Waking the Witch" ("get out of the waves, get out of the water").

At the end of the song there is also a sentence in German spoken (not spoken by Kate Bush herself but by Gabi Zangerl) "Tiefer, tiefer, irgendwo in der Tiefe gibt es ein Licht" that translates to "deeper, deeper, somewhere in the depth there is a light."
8. "Little light shining Little light will guide them to me My face is all lit up My face is all lit up If they find me racing white horses They'll not take me for a buoy" Which song by Kate Bush includes these lines?

Answer: And Dream of Sheep

Another Kate Bush song that gives me goosebumps, combining her beautiful voice with various ambient sounds and spoken word in the background, as if the person in the song is trying desperately to fall asleep amidst these background noises. It's a short song, under three minutes and has been covered by a number of different artists including Tori Amos.
9. A short but nightmarish song by Kate Bush features these lyrics. Can you name this song? "There's something moving under Under the ice moving Under ice through water"

Answer: Under Ice

This song follows seamlessly after "And Dream of Sheep" and in keeping with the storytelling concept of the second side of "Hounds of Love", just when you've fallen into a deep slumber, there's a harrowing song about someone being trapped under ice. Similar to the style used throughout the album "Hounds of Love", this song combines eerie and beautiful lyrics with background sounds and voices to add to the story that Kate Bush is telling the listener.
10. The song that concludes the "Hounds of Love" album includes these lyrics: "I'll tell my father I'll tell my loved one I'll tell my brothers How much I love them" What is this Kate Bush song called?

Answer: The Morning Fog

This song concludes both the album "Hounds of Love" as well as the concept part of the album, which is the entire B side. The second side, known as "The Ninth Wave" is a conceptual look at a woman who is drifting alone at sea. There are references to water, drowning, Earth, sleeping and dreaming throughout the second side and all of this culminates with this song, with the woman wanting to tell those important to her that she loves them.

It's up to interpretation whether the listener thinks the woman has drowned or not.
