1. Which grunge classic contains the often-misquoted lyrics, "A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido"?

Answer: Nirvana, "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

I actually did not know these lyrics until seeing them on a karaoke screen, some 15 years after first hearing this song. These lyrics are repeated several times throughout the song, widely seen as the signature "grunge anthem." Judging from these lyrics, Kurt Cobain and his bandmates had quite the world-view.

2. "You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar..." is the first line of which Big 80s hit?

Answer: "Don't You Want Me" by The Human League

Did you know that the movie "A Star is Born" was lead singer Philip Oakey's original inspiration in writing "Don't You Want Me"? Oakey then made the song into a "conflicting" duet with one of the band's teenage female vocalists. In the process (unwittingly, maybe), one of the great male/female karaoke duets was made! I always enjoy improvising a little acting to get the crowd into the performance.

Released in 1969, "Sweet Caroline" was written and performed by Neil Diamond. It has become a staple at Boston Red Sox home games, coming from the speakers at Fenway Park during every home game.

The songwriting credits for "Hey Jude" are attributed to John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The most common story is that the ballad evolved from "Hey Jules," a song Paul McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son Julian (Jules) during his parents' divorce.

Even if you don't know the words, getting the crowd to chant "na-na-na-na" along with you is sure to give everyone a great time and liberate you from "Karaoke Hell"!

Celine, born in Quebec on March 30, 1968, has recorded dozens of hits in French and English, giving her a broad fan base among karaoke-singing admirers.

Here was another group that used the newly-created music video genre to propel themselves to stardom. The video for "Hungry Like the Wolf" was filmed in the jungles of Sri Lanka, and evoked the atmosphere of the film "Raiders of the Lost Ark." The video received significant airplay time on MTV, eventually making "Hungry Like the Wolf" a success in the US with near-unanimous critical acclaim.

This one might be a little tricky, as the wrong choices are all titles of other songs by Barry. But it was "Copacabana" that lent itself to the catchy parody of "Star Wars Cantina".

Answer: Louis Armstrong

Indeed, it is Louis Armstrong's classic, "What a Wonderful World." Sure to get all your fellow karaoke singers and audience in an upbeat mood...if you perform it well enough, that is.

Over a century after his birth, Armstrong remains one of the most influential figures in the development and rise in popularity of jazz music. Interestingly, this song wasn't initially a commercial success in the US (though in 1968, this track was at the top of the British charts for a month). Two decades later, the movie "Good Morning, Vietnam" helped bring about a revival in the song's popularity.
