Lyrics of "Gameshow" Trivia Quiz

Two Door Cinema Club's 2016 album "Gameshow" was a marked departure from the sound of their previous two albums. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. In this quiz, you need to match the lyrics to the songs from which they come.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Do you see me? And I see you. Tell me what you think we gonna get off to?"

Answer: Surgery

"Surgery" could almost pass for a Gary Numan track, with an especially synthy feel to it amongst the familiar guitar sound of Two Door Cinema Club. Trimble's vocals reach perhaps the top of his register during the choruses and stray into falsetto, but without feeling gratuitous.
2. "I disappeared last night while sleeping in my bed."

Answer: Lavender

"Lavender" was the fifth single released from "Gameshow" and the first after the album's full general release. Like the title track, "Lavender" failed to make the grade on any chart. Musically, the track has a touch of the R&B about it, such as you might find in music that seems to be de rigueur in the twenty-first century.
3. "Save me, I've been drinking wine and I just made a big mistake. Happens all the time."

Answer: Bad Decisions

The second single released, "Bad Decisions" has a decidedly disco-esque feel to it, with a funky bassline pushing Trimble's higher-pitched vocals along. The aforementioned lyrics open the song and seem to lament the singer's inability to make the right decisions and suggest a "trial and error" attitude to life.

The song didn't chart at all in the UK, and performed best in Mexico, reaching number 37 on the Mexico Ingles Airplay chart.
4. "I know you're leaving, 'cause I always take too long, 'cause I always get it wrong. I'm a fool."

Answer: Invincible

Perhaps my least favourite track on the album, "Invincible" is by far the slowest of the tracks on the album. Lyrically, the song seems to be an admission of past mistakes and an acceptance that things need to be fixed for the better: "You're the only one I love. I've got to find a way to make things right with you."
5. "If you close your eyes and listen to what's right outside your door, you won't be giving in."

Answer: Ordinary

These lyrics precede a chorus that seems to question whether being 'ordinary' is in fact a bad thing and that a normal life is perfectly acceptable: "If the world's so mysterious, how can we be ordinary? Everything is easy, everybody is stuck and that's fine." "Ordinary" saw its best performance once again on the Mexico Ingles Airplay, where it reached number ten, the highest position for any single released from the album on any major chart.
6. "So tell me something. Show me the world I'm searching for and take me home."

Answer: Je Viens De Là

"Je Viens De Là" closes the album, tying together the 'classic' Two Door Cinema Club sound of the previous two albums with the disco/funk/electro aesthetic that peppers "Gameshow". The track's title loosely translates from the French as 'I come from there', which makes sense when you consider the aforementioned lyrics from the chorus.
7. "Oh, we've made a mistake. We've lost our minds. We've lost our memory."

Answer: Are We Ready? (Wreck)

"Are We Ready? (Wreck)" is the lead track on the album, as well as the lead single. It was released first in June of 2016, six months ahead of the album's general release and reached a disappointing number 166 on the UK Singles Chart. On a more positive note, though, the album as a whole reached number five.

The video features two of the three band members advertising or endorsing various fictional products (bearing some of the song's lyrics), while the lead singer, Trimble, becomes seemingly disillusioned by it all.
8. "I've been here before, the warning. It opens up the door and now I'm falling."

Answer: Good Morning

Judging by the lyrics, "Good Morning" seems to chart the singer's struggle to know what to do by himself and greets each day with fresh confusion ("I oversimplify this all the time. Somehow I think that I'm alone. I wake up every day and change my mind. Good morning.").

At one point, there is an allusion to religion as a possible answer, though this is dismissed shortly after ("I've been trying to find an answer that I'm certain I will never know. I won't depend on something supernatural. I won't pretend that it's gotta be right for me.")
9. "And then I drew my line, oh what a twisted crime, sink, float, sink, float, sink, float, sink."

Answer: Gameshow

The album's eponymous track was the third single released prior to the album's full release, and is perhaps the most 'rocky' and punk-esque of the album's ten tracks. "Gameshow" failed to feature on any major charts at all after its release.
10. "Vibration gets your bones. You take a picture with a telephone."

Answer: Fever

Like "Je Viens De Là", "Fever" is one of the more discoey tunes on "Gameshow" and, incidentally, my favourite of the album's ten offerings. The track opens with a 30-second long, almost melancholic guitar solo before the punchy beat kicks in and "Fever" takes off, sending feet tapping and heads nodding as Trimble's vocals once again echo the brothers Gibb, particularly in the lead up to each chorus and in the bridge.
