Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What position did "Motown Junk" reach in the U.K chart?

Answer: 94

This was a very early single, circa 1992. It is, however, a very good tune and contains some excellent guitar work and full-throated vocals from James Dean Bradfield.
2. What was the Manic Street Preachers' first U.K number one?

Answer: "If You Tolerare This Your Children Will Be Next"

"A Design For Life" reached number two. The other two songs listed just about made the top ten. If you are a guitarist, you should try and learn the opening riff of "A Design For Life"; it is not that difficult and sounds great.
3. Who wrote the lyrics to "You Stole The Sun From My Heart"?

Answer: Nicky Wire

Nicky Wire is a lyrical genius. His lyrics, combined with James Dean Bradfield's voice and guitar skills, are what make the Manics so magical.
4. On what album would you find "Enola Alone"?

Answer: "Everything Must Go"

This album was the first to be released after Richy's disappearance. It contains some of his last lyrics. "Kevin Carter" is particularly brilliant.
5. Which Manics song contains extracts from George Orwell?

Answer: "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next"

Two of the songs mentioned have connections with the Spanish Civil War. "If You Tolerate This..." borrows from Orwell's personal accounts of the war; Guernica was a town which was heavily bombed during that war. Wales certainly produced some great bands in the nineties. Others include Catatonia, Super Furry Animals, The Stereophonics, and The Sixty Foot Dolls.
6. Who has written most of the Manics' lyrics?

Answer: Nicky Wire

Prior to Richy's disappearance he and Nicky had both written about fifty percent of the lyrics. Since then, Nicky Wire has written all of the lyrics.
7. On which track did Traci Lords make a guest appearance?

Answer: "Little Baby Nothing"

Lords was a former porn star. This song appeared on the album "Generation Terrorists".
8. Who did the remix of "La Tristesse Durera" which appears on the limited edition of "Forever Delayed"?

Answer: The Chemical Brothers

"Forever Delayed" is the Manics' greatest hits album, released in 2002. It contains two new tracks, "There By The Grace Of God" and "Door To The River".
9. What instrument did Richy Edwards play?

Answer: Rhythm guitar

He was probably the least musical of the Manics, but his brilliant lyrics more than make up for that. Since his disappearance, the Manics' songs have lost a little of their edge.
10. On what album would you find "Sleepflower"?

Answer: "Gold Against The Soul"

That album contains other great songs like "La Tristesse Durera" and "From Despair To Where". If you want to hear what the Manics were like before they were superstars, then this is the album for you.
