Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Beatles
Answer: John Lennon
John Winston Lennon was born in 1940. He is arguably one of the best musicians of all time. With his songwriting partner and fellow lead singer Paul McCartney, the band known as The Beatles rose to worldwide fame in the 1960s. The enthusiastic approval they received from their fans, particularly young ladies, was dubbed "Beatlemania". Later, when the band was split up, Lennon decided to pursue a solo career, with equal success.
He was murdered in 1980 in New York by Mark David Chapman.
2. The Rolling Stones
Answer: Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger was born in 1943. His full name is Michael Philip Jagger. Although Jagger has become famous with the Rolling Stones, he has released some solo albums, with the first one being "She's the Boss". In 2009, he joined the band SuperHeavy. He has also acted in a couple of films (like "Ned Kelly" and "Performance"), but the audience largely preferred him as a musician.
3. The Doors
Answer: Jim Morrison
Jim Morrison was born in 1943. His full name was James Douglas Morrison. In the later part of the 1960s, he became one of the most popular icons of youth and youth counterculture. He is also known by the moniker "The Lizard King". Alas, he died very young, when he was 27 years old, in Paris, allegedly from a heroin overdose.
However, since no autopsy was performed, some people dispute this fact.
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd
Answer: Ronnie Van Zant
Ronnie Van Zant was born in 1948. His full name was Ronald Wayne Van Zant. Van Zant and some of his school classmates formed the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, with the name being a mock tribute to a High School gym teacher they had, Leonard Skinner, who disapproved of the boys' long hair. Van Zant and some other members of the band died in a 1977 plane crash; however the band was revived later by Ronnie's brother, Johnny.
5. The Animals
Answer: Eric Burdon
Eric Burdon was born in 1941. His full name is Eric Victor Burdon. Despite the fact that he became famous with The Animals, he has also associated himself with the funk band War. Some of his best known songs with The Animals include "The House of the Rising Sun" and "We Gotta Get Out of this Place". With War, some of his well-known hits are "Spill the Wine" and "The Cisco Kid".
6. Genesis
Answer: Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel was born in 1950. His full name is Peter Brian Gabriel. Gabriel started performing for Genesis when the band was formed, in 1967. However, in 1975, he left the band and Phil Collins became lead singer in his place. After leaving Genesis, Gabriel pursued a solo career, releasing some very successful albums, such as "So", which contains the song "Sledgehammer", the most performed song in the history of MTV.
7. The Band
Answer: Robbie Robertson
Robbie Robertson was born in 1943. His full name is Jaime Royal Robertson. He has also performed many solo hits. In 2005, he was inducted in the UK Music Hall of Fame, while 15 years earlier he had been given the same honor in the United States.
9. Steppenwolf
Answer: John Kay
John Kay was born in 1944. His full name is Joachim Fritz Krauledat. In 1961, he was one of the founding members of Steppenwolf. In concerts, he often wears sunglasses, because he was born with complete color blindness, something that makes his eyes extremely sensitive. Despite the fact that his condition qualifies him as legally blind, he is an avid videographer.
10. Led Zeppelin
Answer: Robert Plant
Robert Plant was born in 1948. His full name is Robert Anthony Plant. He became a member of Led Zeppelin in 1968 and performed the band's best songs, such as "Stairway to Heaven", "Houses of the Holy" and "In the Light".
