Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the Four Seasons, 'though I love her so I can't let her ....'

Answer: know

From the song 'Rag Doll', which got to number 2 in the UK and topped the Billboard chart in 1964.
2. 'All that summer we enjoyed it, wind and rain and shine' - which group sang these lyrics in one of their songs?

Answer: The Hollies

I'm sure most of you knew that those lyrics came from 'Bus Stop', a big hit for The Hollies in going to number 5 in the US and the UK in 1966.
3. Which song do the following lyrics come from? 'I didn't know if it was day or night, I started kissing everything in sight'.

Answer: Love Potion No. 9

A US hit for The Clovers in 1959, The Searchers took the song to number 3 in 1965 for their only US Top 10 entry. Neither version entered the UK charts.
4. Time to guess the song these lyrics came from: 'Changing the grey, changing the blue, scarlet for me and scarlet for you'

Answer: Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart

All were hits for Gene Pitney, with 'Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart' reaching number 5 in the UK in 1967. Pitney later re-recorded the song with Marc Almond, resulting in a UK number 1 in 1989, his only UK chart-topper. The song surprisingly failed to make the US Top 40.
5. A novelty song from 1967 begins with 'I may go out tomorrow if I can borrow a coat to wear'. Name the artist.

Answer: Alan Price

The song, 'Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear', got to number 4 in the UK for the Alan Price Set. His other hits included 'The House that Jack Built' and 'Don't Stop the Carnival'.
6. The lyrics this time are 'In my memory there is confusion, was that you and me or an illusion'. The group who sang this is

Answer: The Ivy League

'Tossing and Turning' was The Ivy League's biggest hit, reaching number 3 in the UK in 1965. Earlier that same year they had reached number 8 with 'Funny How Love Can Be'.
7. Hopefully you'll all recognise The Seekers song that these lyrics come from - 'All the little travellers are warm and snug inside'.

Answer: Morningtown Ride

'Train whistle blowing makes a sleepy noise' - yes, it was 'Morningtown Ride', a UK number 2 hit in 1966. Not a Top 40 entry in the US, though.
8. Next up, a big hit from 1966, but what's the song? 'I was five and he was six, we rode on horses made of sticks'

Answer: Bang Bang

Cher went to number 2 in the US with 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)', whilst it reached number 3 in the UK.
9. From which song come the lyrics 'It seems that just the young know how, so I ask them listen now'?

Answer: Lovers of the World Unite

'Lovers of the World Unite' was a UK number 7 for David and Jonathon in 1966. I don't know how many of you know the song, but hopefully you knew it wasn't any of the other options. David and Jonathon were actually Roger Greenaway and Roger Cook. They also did a version of The Beatles' 'Michelle', but were beaten in the chart race by a version by The Overlanders (incidentally, this version went all the way to the top).
10. And finally for now we have the lyrics 'I know you want to see me but you're afraid of what I might have on my mind'. Got the tune? Now name the song.

Answer: Lady Willpower

A number 2 hit for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap in 1968, it reached number 5 in Britain.

And there you have it. Hope it wasn't too difficult, although there were a couple of testing ones in there. As usual I tried to get some US and UK references in to keep everyone happy. And there's more to come...
