Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I remember when we were gambling to win."

Answer: Gold Guns Girls

An unsurprising success for Metric, "Gold Guns Girls" was the final single for "Fantasies" (though the penultimate track to receive a music video) and has appeared in most concert setlists since 2009. A frenetic track, the single reached number 16 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and peaked at 85 on the Canadian Hot 100. Filmed in New York City, the music video, shot in black and white, features the band running to their instruments throughout.

It was also remixed by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda in 2010.
2. "Who'd you rather be: The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?"

Answer: Gimme Sympathy

Perhaps the biggest breakout of "Fantasies" was "Gimme Sympathy", a single launched with a video shortly before the album's release. The second of three singles on the album to top the Canadian Alternative Rock chart, "Gimme Sympathy" had a great deal of lasting success with fans and in Metric's live concerts due to its unique and frequent catchy riffs.

The video featured the band members performing in an auditorium while the camera focused on each one in succession; when the camera moved, the band members would switch instruments, positions, and outfits offscreen.
3. "Wanna make a trade, cougar for a snake, wanna fall in love."

Answer: Stadium Love

"Stadium Love", the last track on the album, was the final song from "Fantasies" to see any fanfare as the promotional tour came to a close because despite not being sent out for radio airplay to chart, it did receive a music video featuring the band performing in a cage while tigers roamed around outside (intercut with animals fighting each other in the wild). "Stadium Love" was actually one of the earliest on the album to be conceived, appearing in live shows for the "Live It Out" tour along with "Black Sheep" (then known as "Freddy") which, while it was slated to appear on "Fantasies", ended up being on the soundtrack for "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World".
4. "Go higher than high, lower than deep."

Answer: Twilight Galaxy

While never released as a single, "Twilight Galaxy" has a weird history with Metric because although it has all the makings of a deep cut, it's survived as a a frequent concert selection. Not only has "Twilight Galaxy" been used as a down-tempo setlist inclusion, but it ended up appearing as the first song in Metric's acoustic iTunes Session back in 2011 and again as a track in the Spotify Acoustic EP.
5. "Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?"

Answer: Help I'm Alive

The wonderfully percussive first song on the album, "Help I'm Alive" was the first track to be released as a single from the disc, appearing in December 2008 as a promotional teaser (in advance of the April 2009 release of the album). The track would become a concert staple, often being used as the first song to be played at live shows.

The song is rife with catchy hooks and, as such, became a popular choice for use in TV shows, video games, and advertisements. It charted on two Billboard charts in the U.S. and at number 21 on the Canadian Hot 100. Singer Emily Haines wrote the song on a trip to Argentina after the exhausting release and tour for the band's third album, "Live It Out".
6. "Tell the survivors help is on the way."

Answer: Blindness

"Blindness", the penultimate track on the album, seems to start as a quieter track backed only by synth and guitar but branches out a bit as it reaches the bridge towards the end. One of the few tracks from "Fantasies" not to get any promotional or video treatment, "Blindness" seems to fade into the background a bit.

Despite that, it's the type of deep cut that splits up the high energy tracks much like "On a Slow Night" and "The Police and the Private" on earlier albums.
7. "Burned out stars, they shine so bright."

Answer: Front Row

The second promotional single for the album, "Front Row" seemed slated to be a hit before the album was released but that never really materialized quite like it did for the other singles. It only topped off at number 65 on the Canadian Hot 100. Despite this, "Front Row", because of its use as a promotional track, ended up being used frequently during concerts in the "Fantasies" era, disappearing in time for the release of "Synthetica" a few years later.
8. "I'll write you harmony in C."

Answer: Sick Muse

The album's second track and fourth single, "Sick Muse" neglected to chart as a single despite radio play though it was the first song from the album to be used for promotion after its release and one of the few to see a music video release. The video featured the band playing the song in a small, white room with a number of props and instruments. Video creators Justin Broadbent and Michael Leach (also known as Hot Dog Garbage) have also done videos for Canadian musicians Shad and Hannah Georgas.
9. "The rest of the ride is riding on you."

Answer: Collect Call

Likely a bit less-remembered than most tracks on the album, "Collect Call" is the rare downtempo selection from "Fantasies". The lyrics of this one are meant to evoke the listener into providing affection for the singer, even if that may be the wrong move, or perhaps it's about a relationship that's outstayed itself.

"Over goodbyes we'll buy some place for wishing you could
Keep me closer, I'm a lazy dancer, when you move I move with you."
10. "I can feel your ghost when I'm alone."

Answer: Satellite Mind

"Satellite Mind" is an interesting track for "Fantasies" in that it never lived for long past its first tour; the track never really showed up in setlists in any consistent matter thereafter, fading into the background as a deep cut. Nonetheless, falling into the third track slot on the album between "Sick Muse" and "Twilight Galaxy", it eases into the groove of the disc before upping the percussion as it closes out. Since it proceeds into a slower track, it might be considered the end of the first act of the album.
