Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Arlo Guthrie, "Alice's Restaurant". Who was Alice's husband?

Answer: Ray

"... Alice doesn't live in the restaurant, she lives in the
church nearby the restaurant, in the bell-tower, with her husband Ray and
Fasha the dog."

The original Guthrie recording of this song was over 18 minutes in length!
2. Bon Jovi, "Living on a Prayer". Who is Tommy's girlfriend?

Answer: Gina

"Gina works the diner all day..."

The band's signature song. Released in 1986, certified triple platinum and was their first Billboard Mainstream Rock single to hit number one.
3. The Traveling Wilburys, "Tweeter and the Monkey Man". Who is the cop's sister?

Answer: Jan

"...selling cocaine and hash to an undercover cop who had a sister named Jan."

The song was originally written by Tom Petty and Bob Dylan when they were members of the Wilburys. At a length of 5:18, it was the longest track recorded by the Wilburys and was the only song on the album not to feature Roy Orbison singing.
4. The Steve Miller Band, "Take the Money and Run". Who is Billy Joe's lover?

Answer: Bobbie Sue

"This is a story about Billy Joe and Bobbie Sue
Two young lovers with nothin' better to do."

Gary Mallaber, the drummer on this song, has recorded with many top name musicians including Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Frampton, John Lennon, The Beach Boys and many more.
5. Bruce Springsteen, "Highway Patrolman". Who is Joe's brother?

Answer: Franky

"My name is Joe Roberts, I work for the state....
I got a brother named Franky, and Franky ain't no good."

The 1991 movie, "The Indian Runner", is based on this song. It tells the story of a Vietnam vet who returns home to a brother who has become a police officer. Things don't go well.
6. Bobbie Gentry, "Ode to Billie Joe". Who did the girl's brother marry?

Answer: Becky Thompson

"...brother married Becky Thompson; they bought a store in Tupelo."

Bobbie is noted as one of the first female country artists to write and produce her own material. She also wrote "Fancy", which later became a hit single for Reba McEntire.
7. Ray Peterson, "Tell Laura I Love Her". Who wanted to buy Laura a wedding ring?

Answer: Tommy

"Laura and Tommy were lovers, He wanted to give her everything. Flowers, presents, but most of all, a wedding ring."

This song was originally about a cowboy in a rodeo, not a driver in a stock car race. Jeff Barry, one of the original writers, was a fan of the cowboy culture but at the insistence of RCA, the song was rewritten as a love struck teenager in a stock car race.
8. Barry Manilow, "Copacabana". Who did Tony fight with?

Answer: Rico

"But Rico went a bit too far
Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew.."

Released in 1978, this is Barry Manilow's first gold single and his first Grammy.
9. Dixie Chicks, "Goodbye Earl". Who was Wanda's best friend?

Answer: Mary Anne

"Mary Anne and Wanda were the best of friends
All through their high school days."

This song was written by Dennis Linde, who wrote many songs that included a character named Earl. The Earl character in this song is supposedly the same Earl that Sammy Kershaw's lover is with in "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer", also written by Linde.
10. Terry Jacks, "Seasons in the Sun". Who is his daughter?

Answer: Michelle

"Goodbye Michelle my little one. You gave me love and helped me find the sun."

Originally written as "Le Moribond" by Jacques Brel, this English version became a number one hit for Terry in 1973/4 but yet, has also been called one of the worst pop songs ever recorded. I don't think number one and "the worst" can be in the same sentence, do you?
