Norman Quentin Cook (born Quentin Leo Cook) was the bassist with the band The Housemartins before changing his name to Fatboy Slim and focusing on electronic music. As Fatboy Slim, he had hits in the 1990s and early 2000s with the songs "Rockafeller Skank", "Weapon of Choice" and the song "Praise You." "Praise You" was released in 1999 and reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom and in Iceland. Several samples were used in the song including from "Take Yo' Praise" by Camille Yarbrough.

The accompanying video was filmed as unsuspecting bystanders are lining up outside a movie theater. It was directed by Spike Jonze who also stars in the video as a member of a dance troupe who perform flash mob style to the song.
