Not Just a Pretty Face Trivia Quiz

There are a lot of all-around performers out there but my music collection also includes a number of songs from actors and actresses who are not usually known for their musical performances so I thought I'd base a quiz on those.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Glenn Close has played both the Vice President of the United States (in "Air Force One") and the First Lady (in "Mars Attacks"). But in which Disney film can she be heard singing?

Answer: Tarzan

She voices Kala, the ape who raises Tarzan and sings "You'll Be In My Heart" which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Music Original Song in 2000 for writer Phil Collins.
Glenn Close can also be heard singing on the 1980 cast album of "Barnum" with Jim Dale in the title role.
2. Which talented comedian and actor sang on several films including "The Birdcage", "Happy Feet" and "Popeye"?

Answer: Robin Williams

Robin Williams' most famous song performance was "Friend Like Me" as the Genie in Aladdin, but that would have been too easy.

Jim Carrey sang in "The Grinch" while Eddie Murphy sang frequently in the "Shrek" movies. I don't know any singing performances from Ben Stiller.
3. In an X-Men sing-off you would expect Wolverine to take the honors as Hugh Jackman is well-known for his Broadway and film musical performances, but which X-Men actor/actress could you find singing "That's Amore" in the movie "Enchanted"?

Answer: James Marsden

James Marsden (Cyclops) played Prince Edward in "Enchanted" and sang very nicely.
Kelsey Grammar (Beast) has also been known to sing quite a bit, including the theme song to his own show "Frasier".
4. Henry Winkler, Ron Howard and Scott Baio were all credited on soundtrack albums before they met on the set of "Happy Days".

Answer: False

Scott Baio had appeared in the musical film "Bugsy Malone" as the title character, but he and all the rest of the children in the cast were lip-synching.
Ron Howard had appeared in the film of "The Music Man" but was not credited on any of the tracks.
Henry Winkler has no soundtrack credits that I can find.
5. This tough guy voiced Spike the Dog in "Rugrats Go Wild" and sang two songs along with it. Who is he?

Answer: Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis performs "Lust for Life" and "Big Bad Cat" (with Chrissie Hynde). IMDB also lists him as performing in a number of episodes of "Moonlighting" but I don't think there was a soundtrack album to capture them.

You can also hear Tim Curry on the "Rugrats Go Wild" soundtrack album.
6. Johnny Depp starred as Willy Wonka in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005) and sang "Pure Imagination".

Answer: False

Johnny Depp has shown his vocal talents in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" but did not sing in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". "Pure Imagination" came from "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" (1971) when it was sung by Gene Wilder.
7. This actor leapt around from character to character in the 80s, striving "to put right what once went wrong". But that didn't stop him from singing when the opportunity arose.

Answer: Scott Bakula

The soundtrack album from the series "Quantum Leap" includes Scott Bakula singing in the personae of a theatrical musical star, a glam rocker and even a young Elvis Presley. It also contains some of the beautiful background music from the show, the title sequence and even a rap performance by veteran actor Dean Stockwell.
8. The highly respected actor and director Clint Eastwood broke into song for a western musical film in the early years of his career.

Answer: True

Perhaps the most iconic performance of a tough guy actor surprising his audience by singing is that of Lee Marvin doing a gravelly-voiced version of "Wand'rin' Star" in "Paint Your Wagon" in 1969 but the young Clint Eastwood alongside him sang several numbers including "I Talk To The Trees".

Clint Eastwood also sang several times in "Honky-Tonk Man" in 1982.
9. This British comedienne known for both a comic partnership and writing and starring in one of the best-loved British sitcoms of the 1990s, voiced the role of the Fairy Godmother in "Shrek 2" and sang both "The Fairy Godmother Song" (naturally) and "Holding Out For A Hero". Who is she?

Answer: Jennifer Saunders

Jennifer Saunders became famous as half of "French and Saunders" before writing and starring in "Absolutely Fabulous".
While Julie Andrews played the Queen in the film she did not sing.
However you can also hear Antonio Banderas and Eddie Murphy on the "Shrek 2" soundtrack singing "La Vida Loca".
10. Disney films are a good place to find some unexpected performances but which sinister actor of horror films sang two songs on "The Great Mouse Detective" at the age of 75?

Answer: Vincent Price

Vincent Price provided the voice for "Ratigan", the villain of the film and sang both "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" and "Goodbye, So Soon".
He is also credited on one of the greatest albums of the 20th Century, having provided "narration" on the title track on Michael Jackson's 1982 "Thriller" album.
