Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It was easy to "Keep On Running" with this group that featured a young Stevie Winwood on vocals and keyboards.

Answer: The Spencer Davis Group

Steve Winwood was a teenager in the Spencer Davis Group, and went on to found "Traffic" and "Blind Faith".
And as his success continued on with his solo career, he has been a
star for five decades.
2. Many a British bird had a "Wild Thing" for this group and its lead singer, Reg Presley.

Answer: The Troggs

"Wild Thing" was penned by American songwriter Chip Taylor, who also
wrote "Angel of the Morning" among others. He is also Jon Voight's brother.
3. This group taught us all that "Silence Is Golden" in 1967.

Answer: The Tremeloes

Decca records turned down "The Beatles" in favor of Brian Poole
and The Tremeloes who auditioned that same day. OOOPS!
4. Which of the following songs was NOT a hit for "The Hollies"?

Answer: Just Out Of Reach

"Just Out Of Reach" was a minor hit for "The Zombies". "Bus Stop"
was the first Hollies hit to crack the top 10 in the U.S.A.
5. It would take "A Well Respected Man" "All Day And All Of The Night" to find this group on a "Sunny Afternoon".

Answer: The Kinks

With all those hints, not even "Lola" could miss this question!
6. This group knew all about a "Groovy Kind Of Love", wouldn't you agree?

Answer: The Mindbenders

Poor old Wayne Fontana left the group right before they had their
first #1 hit in the U.K. Eric Stewart (the guitarist) went on to
be a founding member of 10CC.
7. This group taught us about "Lady Godiva" after beginning in a "World Without Love".

Answer: Peter And Gordon

Peter Asher, of course, went on to be a top-notch record producer.
(Linda Ronstadt & James Taylor) "Carl and the Passions" was an
early name of "The Beach Boys".
8. This group's hit "Telstar" was instrumental in kicking off the British Invasion.

Answer: The Tornados

"Telstar" hit the top of the American charts in December of 1962,
months before The Beatles even received steady airplay in the U.S.A.
Please forgive the bad pun, I can't help it, I'm a sick man!
9. A little more obscure now: This group laid down a great jam with "Reflections Of My Life" in 1969.

Answer: The Marmalade

This Scottish group began as "Dean Ford & The Gaylords". It was
thought that their name sounded too "fifties" and the rumor is
their manager came up with "The Marmalade" over breakfast.
10. Although they only caught fire once in the U.S.A., this band refused to burn out after striking it rich with "Pictures Of Matchstick Men".

Answer: Status Quo

Practically an inspiration for "Spinal Tap", this legendary group
has had more than 50 hits in the U.K. Despite constant touring,
they were never again able to crack the top ten in America. (According
to one of our players in Australia, they are still an amazing band.
Thank you sydswan).
