The missing word in the hymn title is 'Well'. Horatio G. Spafford wrote the lyrics for 'It Is Well With My Soul' in 1873. The music for the classic Gospel hymn was composed by Philip B. Bliss in 1876.

Spafford was a prominent lawyer and businessman who suffered financial ruin after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 wiped out his assets.
