Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1970 album "McCartney" contains the following lyrics? "Every night I just wanna go out, get out of my head Every day I don't want to get up, get out of my bed"

Answer: Every Night

In 1991, McCartney sang "Every Night" for MTV's "Unplugged." That version appears on the album "Unplugged (The Official Bootleg)." With the release of Paul's first solo album, the Beatles were broken up. According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number one on the U.S. chart.
2. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1971 album "Ram" contains the following lyrics? "That was your first mistake You took your lucky break and broke it in two Now what can be done for you You broke it in two"

Answer: Too Many People

According to Wikipedia, John Lennon thought this song was directed at him. This album contains the hit single "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number two on the U.S. chart.
3. Which song from Wings' 1971 album "Wild Life" contains the following lyrics? "Some people can sleep at nighttime Believing that love is a lie. I'm only a person like you, love, And who in the world can be right All the right time. I know I was wrong, make me right, right"

Answer: Some People Never Know

"Wild Life" is the first album with his band "Wings." I would consider this the most obscure McCartney album, since it doesn't contain any instantly recognizable songs. According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number ten on the U.S. chart.
4. Which song from Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 album "Red Rose Speedway" contains the following lyrics? "And when I go away I know my heart can stay with my love It's understood"

Answer: My Love

According to Wikipedia, "My Love" was his second U.S. number one single. In addition, "Red Rose Speedway" peaked at number one on the U.S. chart. The B side of "My Love" is the track "The Mess (Recorded Live at the Hague)." This track is a good McCartney rocker and can be found as a bonus track on the U.S version of the cd.
5. Which song from Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 album "Band on the Run" contains the following lyrics? "Well the rain exploded with a mighty crash As we fell into the sun And the first one said to the second one there I hope you're having fun."

Answer: Band on the Run

This is probably Paul's most familiar solo album. According to Wikipedia, the album was ranked number 418 on "Rolling Stone" magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, which appeared in 2003. One of my favorite McCartney tracks, "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five," appears on the album (and is also the B side of the U.S. version of "Band on the Run"). According to the booklet included in the 25th anniversary edition, the album reached number one on both the U.K. and U.S. charts.
6. Which song from Wings' 1975 album "Venus and Mars" contains the following lyrics? "Any time, any day You can hear the people say, That love is blind, well, I don't know but I say love is kind"

Answer: Listen to What the Man Said

According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number one in the U.S. The album contains two songs that are not sung by Paul: "Spirits of Ancient Egypt" is sung by Denny Laine and "Medicine Jar" is sung by Jimmy McCulloch. Paul, however, sings part of the chorus of 'Spirits of Ancient Egypt'.
7. Which song from Wings' 1976 album "At the Speed of Sound" contains the following lyrics? "Love doesn't come in a minute, Sometimes it doesn't come at all"

Answer: Silly Love Songs

The songs "Let 'Em In" and "Silly Love Songs" have been lampooned over the years, but they are actually quite good pop songs. The song "Time to Hide" has Denny Laine on vocals and is in my opinion his best song with Wings. According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number one in the U.S. The U.S. version of the CD contains the fun bonus track "Sally G."
8. Which song from Wings' 1978 album "London Town" contains the following lyrics? "People pass me by on my imaginary street Ordinary people it's impossible to meet Holding conversations that are always incomplete Well I don't know"

Answer: Getting Closer

This is the final Wings album. According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number eight on the U.S. chart. This album contains two tracks by Rockestra: "Rockestra Theme" and "So Glad To See You Here." Along with Paul McCartney, Rockestra included David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, John Paul Jones, and many others! In my mind this album is very underappreciated.
10. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1980 album "McCartney II" contains the following lyrics? "You want a love to last forever, One that will never fade away. I want to help you with your problem, Stick around, I say."

Answer: Coming Up

This album is his first since "Ram" without Wings. Note that the studio version of "Coming Up" is different from the live version of "Coming Up", which went to number one in the U.S. according to Wikipedia. Also from Wikipedia, the album peaked at number three on the U.S. chart. The album contains a lot of synthesizer music. In my opinion, this is his worst album.
11. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1982 album "Tug of War" contains the following lyrics? "But as for me I still remember how it was before And I am holding back the tears no more I love you"

Answer: Here Today

And I was glad you came along
Then you were here today
For you were in my song
Here today"

According to Wikipedia, "Tug of War" peaked at number one on the U.S. chart.

15. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1989 album "Flowers in the Dirt" contains the following lyrics? "Is it better to love one another Than to go for a walk in the dark? Is it better to love than to give in to hate?"

Paul McCartney ended the decade of the 80s with the strong album "Flowers in the Dirt." This album contains three songs that he did with Elvis Costello - "My Brave Face," "You Want Her Too," and "That Day is Done." According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number 21 on the U.S. chart.
16. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1993 album "Off the Ground" contains the following lyrics? "Well we're going to, yeah we're going to Get it right this time. We're going to, really going to Raise it to the sky. People are ready to forgive a few mistakes But let's get started, form a party Don't you know how long it takes!"

Answer: C'mon People

At the end of the "C'mon People" track there is an edit of the song "Cosmically Conscious." The cd single for the song "Off the Ground" contains a 4:39 version of "Cosmically Conscious." Curiously, the end of that version contains a short edit of "Down to the River," which appears on the "C'mon People" cd single. According to Wikipedia, the album "Off the Ground" peaked at number seventeen on the U.S. chart.
17. Which song from Paul McCartney's 1997 album "Flaming Pie" contains the following lyrics? "I don't care what you want to be I go back so far I'm in front of me! It doesn't matter what they say They're giving the game away"

Answer: The World Tonight

From the CD booklet, Paul writes about this track:

"The lyrics were just gathering thoughts. Like 'I go back so far, I'm in front of me' - I don't know where that came from, but if I'd been writing with John he would have gone 'OK, leave that one in; we don't know what it means but we do know what it means.'"

Answer: How Kind of You

"Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" was nominated for the "Album of the Year" Grammy. This album was produced by Nigel Godrich who previously worked with Radiohead and Beck. The song "How Kind of You" plays during the menu on the dvd that comes with the special edition of the album. According to Wikipedia, the album peaked at number six on the U.S. chart.
