Valenti, real name Chester "Chet" Powers but also known as Jesse Oris Farrow, wrote this hippie generation song about brotherhood and unity in the early 1960s. It has been recorded by many artists, including David Crosby, The Kingston Trio and Jefferson Airplane but it was The Youngbloods that took it to number five in the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it was re released in 1969.

"Happy Trails" was the theme song for both the radio and TV shows starring Rogers and Evans. It was also used by Van Halen for the closing track of their 1982 album, "Diver Down."

Answer: Fresh Air

"Fresh Air" peaked at number 49 on the chart in 1970, performing much better than the follow up single, "What About Me" (1970). This song only managed to reach number 100.

Answer: Bo Diddley

The band covered "Who Do You Love" as the opening to their "Who Do You Love Suite" which took up the whole of side one of the record and opened up side two of the disc with a seven minute loose jam version of "Mona". Bo Diddley was a hugely important guitarist whose influence can be heard in rock, pop and hip hop music.

The album, titled "Quicksilver Messenger Service" was not a commercial success but did bring us the wonderful "Dino's Song" written by Dino Valenti, which was released as a single. Valenti was unable to contribute to the album as he was in prison for marijuana possession at the time.

The band's fourth album was the first to feature Valenti, following his release from prison after serving two years for marijuana related offences and he went straight into the action, writing eight of the nine tracks on the album under the name Jesse Oris Farrow.

Hopkins recorded three albums with Quicksilver Messenger Service between 1969 and 1970, but also played with many other bands including New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, The Jeff Beck Group and Jefferson Airplane. A supremely talented musician, Hopkins could have been a household name, had it not been for severe Crohn's disease which limited his ability to tour.

The track was a joint writing effort between John Cipollina of Quicksilver Messenger Service and Nick Gravenites from Big Brother And The Holding Company, so both bands released it on albums. Cipollina and Gravenites also collaborated on many other projects, including the Nick Gravenites-John Cipollina Band who released the album "Monkey Medicine" in 1982.

Answer: Jefferson Starship

Following the demise of Quicksilver, Freiberg joined Jefferson Airplane, who rebranded themselves as Jefferson Starship in 1974. "Jane" was the first UK hit for the band, also peaking at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Freiberg remained with the band until 1985, when disagreements over the path the band was taking with recordings like "We Built This City" forced him to leave.

During the seven years that The Matrix was in existence, it saw so much talent on the stage with bands such as The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Big BrotherAnd The Holding Company all playing there, as well as a band called Steel Mill, featuring an unknown vocalist by the name of Bruce Springsteen. We've come a long way since 1965 and although Quicksilver disbanded in 1979, David Freiberg and Gary Duncan reunited under the name in 2006 and still tour together, often as a part of a West Coast revival tour along with artists like Country Joe And The Fish and Jefferson Starship.
