Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's the name of a Native American tribe performing in the first and title track, "Ritual"?

Answer: Navajo

All four of the tribes listed in the choice are located in Arizona, Soulfly's home state, including the correct answer - Navajo. There are two Navajo tribes performing chants while one of them beats the drum in the very first part of the first track before the metal riffing begins.

It's weird to know that the song which is about the ritual of metal and life almost didn't make the album. Many reviewers say this song is very similar to Max-era Sepultura and early Soulfly.
2. The second track, "Dead Behind the Eyes", features whom?

Answer: Randy Blythe

"Dead Behind the Eyes" features Randy Blythe, vocalist of Lamb of God, who sings alongside with Max Cavalera. The song is about the Cenobites, in the "Hellraiser" film series, and ancient monks.

Howard Jones was the vocalist of Killswitch Engage, Jamey Jasta fronted Hatebreed, and Robb Flynn was Machine Head's vocalist.
3. How was the third track, "The Summoning", first revealed?

Answer: performed live

'The Summoning' was first played live on June 28, 2018, nearly four months before the parent album came out. It has never been released as a single and began leaking online around the time the album was released.

'The Summoning' has catchy lyric lines - 'Will you take my soul?' and 'Will you take my heart?'.
4. "Evil Empowered" is the fourth track of the album "Ritual". Which of the following lyrical quotes is NOT in the song?

Answer: Worship the devil

"Evil Empowered" was the first single released from the album. Three out of four choices appear in the song's lyrics, so to rise above 25% chance of getting it right, you've got to worship the god, not the devil. "Evil Empowered" is about dictators empowering themselves to have greater control over others. The lyrical line "rise above" was inspired by the Black Flag song "Rise Above".
5. "Under Rapture", the fifth track, features Ross Dolan from which death metal band?

Answer: Immolation

Ross Dolan, member of the death metal band Immolation, performs death vocals in the song "Under Rapture". The song essentially has three relatively distinctive parts with Dolan only appearing in the second part. The single for "Under Rapture", along with the lyric video, was released on the same date as the album's release.
6. The sixth track "Demonized" pays homage to what song by Slayer? Hint: red skies would bring...

Answer: Raining Blood

"Raining Blood" was recorded by Slayer and released on their album "Reign in Blood" released 32 years and 12 days before "Ritual". In fact, all four of the choices are tracks on that same album. Going back to Soulfly, "Demonized" has the lyric line "red skies, red skies", which is a tribute to the Slayer song.

This Soulfly song has an acoustic intro lasting for 42 seconds and has haunting tones over thrash riffing.
7. The seventh track, "Blood on the Street", is about a woman in Phoenix, AZ killed by whom?

Answer: police

The idea for the song "Blood on the Street" was inspired when Max Cavalera heard on Arizona news that a woman named Loreal Tsingine was killed by a policeman; Max calls them "devil in uniform". The first instrument to begin the song is, surprisingly, a flute and it ends with Navajo chants and drums.
8. Complete the title of the eighth track: "Bite the ____"

Answer: Bullet

Can you literally bite the bullet shot from a gun? Absolutely you can't. But there's a figurative meaning for that. Bite the bullet means to make a hard decision in which neither of them are risk-free. The Soulfly song "Bite the Bullet" is about using this meaning to try to defend themselves in the war.
9. Many sites reviewing the album "Ritual" including "KNAC.com", "Ghost Cult Magazine", and "Metal Invader" say the ninth track "Feedback!" resembles which classic metal band?

Answer: Motörhead

Many reviewers and fans felt "Feedback!" pretty much resembles a Motörhead song having punk and classic speed metal riffs in them. This song is a tribute to Lemmy, who died in late December 2015. This song is named after the effect Max Cavalera often produces when playing rhythm guitar. The song features Max Cavalera's son Igor Jr. on additional vocals.
10. The tenth and final track, "Soulfly XI", is an instrumental that features what instrument?

Answer: saxophone

"Soulfly XI" is a jazzy track that features an instrument commonly used in jazz music - saxophone. Saxophone adds flavor to the chilling mix of acoustic, bass, beats, and atmospheric keyboard. It doesn't actually use drums in this song, but rather programmed beats.
