Despite that Igor Cavalera Jr. was the Soulfly member at the time when "Archangel" was released, Tony Campos laid out bass tracks for this album before he left the band more than three months before this album came out, so he was credited as the main bassist on "Archangel". Mike Leon replaced Igor a month after the album was released. Marcelo Dias was the original Soulfly bassist who left the band after playing bass for their first three albums.

The lyrics of "Ishtar Rising" are obviously about Ishtar, the Babylonian goddess of fertility, love, sex, and war. The song was originally titled "Ishtar" before 'Rising' was added before track listing for this album was revealed.

A trumpet on "Bethlehem's Blood" was played by Max Cavalera, who also sings and plays guitar on this track. It is the only Soulfly song of the first ten albums where a trumpet is utilized. Trumpet is not commonly utilized in metal music, but it is more commonly used in classical, jazz, and 1970s rock music.

'Night Stalker' is English for the Spanish title "Acosador Nocturno", which is another bonus track of "Archangel", succeeding "You Suffer". Despite the title in Spanish, its lyrics are in Portuguese and is really the same song as "Deceiver"; the only differences are lyrics and additional vocals by bassist Tony Campos.

All of these choices are wind instruments that have been utilized in Soulfly. A flute, called duduk, is the first instrument heard on the instrumental track "Soulfly X", which is the third and final bonus track of the album's special edition, and the third Soulfly-titled track that is not on the standard album edition.
