Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which year did Soulfly form?

Answer: 1997

The band formed in 1997 after vocalist Max Cavalera exited Sepultura. He joined with guitarist Jackson Bandeira, bassist Marcello D. Rapp, and drummer Roy Mayorga. They released their first album a year later.
2. What is the title of the first Soulfly album?

Answer: Soulfly

Their debut album is the self-titled album, "Soulfly", released in 1998. "Primitive" was their second album, released in 2000. "Prophecy" was their fourth album, released in 2004. "Savages" was their ninth album, released in 2013.
3. What was the first single released by Soulfly?

Answer: Eye for an Eye

In addition to being the first single, "Eye for an Eye" was the first track from the eponymous debut album, "Soulfly". Two out of three wrong choices were also songs from this album. "Back to the Primitive" is the exception as it was released on the 2000 album titled "Primitive". The song "Bleed" was the first video ever released by Soulfly.
4. How many singles were released from the 2004 album "Prophecy"?

Answer: 1

Even though the band's fourth album was released in 2004, it doesn't necessarily mean that four singles were released from the album. Soulfly didn't comply with numeric logic as the album released one single, the title first track "Prophecy". The other albums in which a single single was released are "Omen" and "Enslaved", both albums being released later in the band's career. The debut album had four singles.
5. What is the first instrument heard for the album "Primitive"?

Answer: berimbau

The berimbau is a stringed instrument that produces a high-pitched sound. This sound signals the beginning of the album "Primitive", beginning the first track "Back to the Primitive". By the way, the berimbau was performed by Cavalera, who mainly performs vocals and rhythm guitar.

On the music video for this song, it doesn't begin with the berimbau, instead the first instrument heard is drums, followed by vocals, chanting Soulfly, alternating Cavalera and crowd.
6. Soulfly features a woman singer on several of their songs.

Answer: True

Asha Rabouin is featured as guest vocalist on several Soulfly songs, including "Flyhigh", "Tree of Pain" and "Wings".
7. Of the following, which Soulfly album had the most success on the Billboard 200 albums chart?

Answer: Primitive

All of these albums charted on the U.S. Billboard 200, but "Primitive" is most successful, peaking at number 32. "Soulfly" peaked at number 79, "Prophecy" peaked at number 82 and "Dark Ages" peaked at number 155.
8. Is there's a reason why the album "Dark Ages" contains dark themes?

Answer: Yes

Just as the recording got underway, two tragedies struck Cavalera. On December 8, 2004 his friend, Dimebag Darrell, was killed in a shooting while performing with the band Damageplan. Two days later, his grandson, Moses, died when he was 8 months old. To mourn their deaths, Max Cavalera added dark themes into the fifth album and added the title "Dark Ages" to reflect the period.
9. "Savages" was released though which record label?

Answer: Nuclear Blast

The first eight Soulfly albums were released through the Roadrunner record label, up to and including "Enslaved" which was released in 2012. "Savages" was the first Soulfly album to appear on another label, with the band choosing Nuclear Blast as their record company.
10. What symbol is shown on the album cover art of "3"?

Answer: Om

Hence the album titled "3", it is the third Soulfly album released. The album artwork shows an om imprinted on a peach background. Om, sometimes written as aum, is a Hindu symbol written as slightly slanted 3 with bowl-shaped semicircle on top with a little diamond within it, and a tail connecting to the right of the middle stem of the number three.
