Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In its formative years this band was known as Oxaca and The Stalk-Forrest Group. They had some great album titles, like "Cultosaurus Erectus". The symbol of Kronos appears on their every album cover.

Answer: Blue Oyster Cult

They formed in 1967 as Soft White Underbelly and are probably best known for "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and Metallica's cover of "Astronomy". Their song "Veteran Of The Psychic Wars", from "Fire Of Unknown Origin" LP appears in the movie "Heavy Metal".
2. This American female rock quartet formed in late 1970s, changing its name in the early 80s. Steve Vai's wife used to play bass for them, but later on she was replaced by Share Pederson. In 1984 they appeared in a movie "Hardbodies".

Answer: Vixen

They were regarded as a female version of Bon Jovi, though I still like to listen to some of their songs ("How Much Love", "Cryin"). They broke up in the early 90s, but in 1997 Janet Gardner and Roxy Petrucci reunited for a tour and released "Tangerine" LP a year later.
3. Formed in 1982 in Los Angeles. In the early days of their career they used to "torture" half-naked women and eat worms during their concerts. One of their members used to be married to Lita Ford.

Answer: W.A.S.P.

WASP stands for We Are Sexual Perverts and you may agree with it if you watch closely some of their videos. I heard their song on the radio, some time in the late 1980s, and was swept away (I was about 14). Blackie Lawless became my idol for one day. The next day I found his photo and changed my mind. But still, this guy can scream...
4. An American band formed in 1983 in New York. They played fine melodic pop rock. After they had broken up in 1991, their vocalist started his new band Freak Of Nature and the bass player went on to play with Zakk Wylde in Pride & Glory.

Answer: White Lion

The band consisted of Mike Tramp on vocals, Vito Bratta on lead guitar, James Lomenzo on bass, and Greg D'Angelo on drums. In my opinion their best album was "Mane Attraction", released in 1991 and produced by Richie Zito. Mike Tramp, after Freak Of Nature split up, recorded four solo albums - "Capricorn", "Remembering White Lion", "Recovering The Wasted Years" and "More To Life Than This".
5. This American band, formed in 1981, released their self-titled and self-produced EP on their own record label, 206, before finally signing a deal with EMI. Their legendary conceptual album, released in 1988, is said to have broken new musical grounds and earned the band a Grammy nomination.

Answer: Queensryche

The masterpiece "Operation: Mindcrime", produced by Peter Collins ia an album with a detailed storyline and full of memorable songs (with some help from Pamela Moore), which went on to earn worldwide acclaim. In 1991 the band released "Operation: Livecrime", a live video commemorating the enormously popular tour, which had translated the album concept into a theatrical performance.
6. An American rock and folk group formed in 1970 by a future Black Sabbath vocalist, with Gary Driscoll playing drums.

Answer: Elf

With Ronnie James Dio on lead vocals they quickly caught the attention of ex-Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover who helped them sign a record deal and produced their first album. Elf met ex-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore through Glover and shortly after their initial meeting, Blackmore invited most of them to join his new project, Rainbow. Later, Ronnie joined forces with Black Sabbath (after Ozzy had left) and released with them "Heaven & Hell", "Mob Rules", "Live Evil" and "Dehumanizer".
7. An American band formed in 1982 in New York by two ex-Fallout members. Lead by a charismatic bassist/vocalist by the name of Piotr Ratajczyk, they produced two albums before spliting up in 1989.

Answer: Carnivore

Piotr Ratajczyk is much better known as Peter Steele. The band's first name was Disciple, but they had to change it since there was already a band named Disciple. They had their first gig at Zappa's in Brooklyn. With their aggressive music and lyrics mostly about the post-WWWIII survivor attitude, they used to wear futuristic barbarianic warrior costumes on stage and threw buckets of freshly slaughtered cow innards on the crowd.
8. An American superband, formed in 1989 by members of Styx and Night Ranger. They released only two albums.

Answer: Damn Yankees

The line-up consisted of Jack Blades (ex-Night Ranger), Tommy Shaw (ex-Styx), Ted Nugent and Michael Cartellone. Their debut album (1990)brought hits like "High Enough", "Coming Of Age" and "Come Again" and sold over two million copies. Their second release, "Don't Tread" (1992), was less successful and after the accompanying tour, Ted Nugent went on to work on his solo album to complete his contract with Atlantic Records, while Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades teamed up under the name Shaw-Blades.
9. A German band formed in 1987 in Karlsruhe. They signed a major deal with Sony after having won the Metal Hammer Newcomers Festival in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Their original singer, Andi Deris, left in 1994 and was replaced by a Brit, David Readman.

Answer: Pink Cream 69

They were named after a kind of strange alcoholic German drink. The former vocalist, Andi Deris, went on to sing for fellow Germans Helloween. Pink Cream 69 released nine studio LPs - "Pink Cream 69" (1989), "One Size Fits All" (1991), "Games People Play" (1993), "Change" (1995), "Food For Thought" (1997), "Electrified" (1998), "Sonic Dynamite" (2000), "Endangered" (2001) and "Thunderdome" (2004).
10. A British band formed in 1988 whose frontman (his ex-wife was the British MTV Headbangers Ball presenter, Vanessa) played rhythm guitar for New Model Army on a world tour in 1987. Their debut album was produced by Duran Duran's Andy Taylor. In 1992 they played the Monsters of Rock festival in Donington, England.

Answer: The Almighty

The Almighty's albums include "Blood Fire & Love", "Soul Destruction", "Powertrippin", "Crank" and "Just Add Life". After they split up in 1996, their frontman Ricky Warwick formed a new band called Sic that lasted until 1998. The Almighty reformed in 1999 and recorded two new albums - "The Almighty" and "Psycho Narco".

In 2002 they split up again and Ricky signed a deal with Peermusic and released his solo album "Tattoos & Alibis" (produced by Def Leppard's Joe Elliott) in 2003.
