Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Venom's Cronos's real name?

Answer: Conrad Lant

Jeffrey is Venom's Mantas, Thomas is Sodom's Angelripper and Terrence is Geezer Butler.
2. What punk song did Destruction cover?

Answer: "The Damned" (Plasmatics)

I wish they'd done all four, all great bands and great songs. "New Rose" is often cited as the first punk record, Poison Idea did a great version of it. Feederz were an abrasive bunch of loony leftists. G.B.H. are punk, but easy on the metal ears.
3. Which band doesn't feature a singing drummer on lead vocals?

Answer: Tank

Tank's Algy Ward played bass and sang. Exciter fall into three of my favourite categories, i.e. singing drummers, Canadian metal, and bands named after Priest songs. Zoetrope are the dog's bollocks.
4. Whose lead vocalist was a wrestler?

Answer: Nasty Savage

Nasty Ronny was proper mental. Savage Grace tried to wrestle with the lasses on their album covers. Detente's Dawn Crosby wrestled too, mostly with the bottle. Great metal legend, R.I.P.
5. Which band are/were not from Norway?

Answer: Entombed

Entombed are from Sweden.
6. Who recorded the power metal classic "Metalized"?

Answer: Sword

Great album, totally ignored at the time and since. Needs a rerelease. The false answers are nothing to sniff at either.
7. Who sang "Revenge" on the "Rise Above Tribute To Black Flag" album?

Answer: Tom Araya

Lemmy sang "Thirsty And Miserable", Mike Patton "Six Pack" and Biff stayed at home with a champion cup o' chai.
8. Where did British thrashers Atomkraft get their name from?

Answer: A German Green Party badge

Apparently, one of them got the badge whilst on tour in Germany with a previous band (Moral Fibre). Their line-ups are too hard to follow, Tony Demolition Man had the tough job of replacing Cronos in Venom for a bit, but is now back in the fold. Cracking name, great albums, good live band, criminally ignored.
9. Which pop band did English Dogs guitarist Gizz Butt end up playing with for a bit?

Answer: The Prodigy

I read he says it was awful. Must have got a few quid at last though. Gizz then formed great melodic thrash act Wardance, and is now in Sabbat, playing bass. Proper journeyman.
10. Which easy listening artist did Megadeth cover on their debut album?

Answer: Nancy Sinatra

Cracking version of "These Boots Were Made For Walking", although Nancy's version is raunchier.
11. Who covered Elton John's "Alright For Fighting"?

Answer: Flotsam & Jetsam

Metallica famously covered lots of tunes, Overkill did Frankenstein, Sonic Reducer... Should have done "Ballroom Blitz". The great Flotsam cover can be found on "No Place For Disgrace", if you can find it, or as a single, that you won't find.
12. Who did Agent Steel open for on their live debut?

Answer: Slayer

They shared members with both Abattoir and Savage Grace, and rumour has it that John "mad as a box of frogs" Cyriis tried out for Megadeth around 1985. Nobody seems to know where he's ended up, or where he came from for that matter.
13. Which band didn't release their debut album until 14 years after forming?

Answer: Pentagram

It took Cirith Ungol eight years to release "Frost And Fire", it took 21 years to get a Hell album, and Hellhamer never released an album. Hell were together for only eight of the 21 years, whereas Pentagram were together for 11 of the 14.
14. Under what name (which they shared with a punk band) did Deathrow release two demos?

Answer: Samhain

Rudimentary Peni are one of the most intriguing bands to come out of punk. There have been a few Fear Of Gods, a blinding Swiss grindcore band, and Detente heroine Dawn Crosby also fonted an act of that name. Terrorain were an obscure UKHC band, well worth digging for. Samhain were post- Misfits Goth/Horror punks.
15. What's the name of the Master album recorded in 1985 that went unreleased at the time?

Answer: Unreleleased 1985 Album

Uninspired title, essential listening. Unknown Soldier, Master and Funeral Bitch (also an early name for the same-ish band) were Master songs. Their debut was called Master. Underground legends. Last heard of in the Czech Republic.
