Neil Sedaka co-wrote "Oh! Carol" with Howard Greenfield in 1958. It went to number nine on the US charts in 1959. The "Carol" in the song title was Sedaka's girfriend at that time, Carol Klein - who is now known as Carole King.

Neil Sedaka was born in 1939 and he wrote many of his songs with Howard Greenfield. Some of his more famous songs are "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen", "Calendar Girl", and "Breaking Up is Hard to Do". In 1983 he was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Layla" was originally written by Eric Clapton in 1970 when he was a member of Derek and the Dominos and the song appeared on one of their albums. He had a hit again in 1992 when the song appeared on Clapton's "Unplugged" album and it won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song that year.

He has been in several bands including The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Cream. This song was originally recorded by The Regents and it reached number 13 on the Billoard Hot 100 records chart. However, when released as a single by the Beach Boys in 1965 the song really took off reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three in the UK as well as being popular in countries throughout the world.

The Beach Boys got together in 1961 and signed their first record deal in 1962. They had many hits including "Good Vibrations", "Surfer Girl", and "Surfin' USA."
