The Animals, from Newcastle upon Tyne in the north east of the UK started out as The Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo. They became The Animals after Eric Burdon joined in the early '60s. They moved to London in 1964 and became part of the British invasion of the US and had a transatlantic number one hit with "The House Of The Rising Sun". It became their best known song which was reportedly recorded in 15 minutes at a cost at the time, of £1.50. In 1965 Alan Price left the group over personal and musical differences as well as the fear of flying on tour. He then had success with The Alan Price set, as a duo with Georgie Fame and solo into the '80s. The group became Eric Burdon & The Animals who had hits with "See See Rider" & "San Franciscan Nights" among others. The group disbanded in 1968 and Eric Burdon went on to perform with War. After bass player Chas Chandler left The Animals he went on to manage Jimi Hendrix and the UK group Slade. The Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

The DC5 from Tottenham, London were one of the most popular of the British invasion groups in the US rivaling The Beatles momentarily in the early '60s. They had eight US top ten hits including a number one hit with "Over And Over" in 1965, which only reached number 45 on the UK chart in 1965. Their only number one in the UK was their second chart single "Glad All Over" in 1963, which reached number six on the US pop chart in 1964. "Catch Us If You Can" was from the movie of the same name staring The DC5 it was titled "Having A Wild Weekend" in the US. The group broke up in 1970, Dave Clark & Mike Smith the DC5 vocalist and keyboard player formed Dave Clark & Friends which lasted until 1973. In 2003 Mike Smith was paralyzed from the waist down after a fall at his home in Spain. Despite the success of The DC5 he was in financial difficulty and various appeals were launched for his treatment, particularly by Peter Noone (Herman of Herman's Hermits). After years of treatment he was released from hospital in 2007 but died from pneumonia in February 2008, eleven days before the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of The Dave Clark Five. At the end his estate was worth only £66,000.

It reached number nine on the UK chart in 1974. His highest solo UK single as Derek and The Dominoes was "Layla" it reached number seven in 1972 but on re-release in 1982 it reached number four. A re-recorded acoustic version reached number 45 in 1992. It reached number 51 on the US pop chart in 1971, the longer version reached number ten in 1972 and the acoustic version reached number 12 in 1992. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, first in 1992 as a member of The Yardbirds, in 1993 as a member of Cream and in 2000 as a soloist. You did well son.

Art Garfunkel was the taller half of Tom & Jerry, later Simon & Garfunkel. As a duo they had three number one hits on the US pop chart and one number one hit on the UK chart. After they split up in 1971 Paul Simon had one number one hit on the US pop chart and none on the UK chart. Art Garfunkel had no number one hits on the US pop chart and two number one hits on the UK chart. Art Garfunkel can do the math on all that, he has a Masters degree in mathematics from Columbia University.

Men At Work were Colin Hay(singer,Guitar), Ron Strykert (lead guitar), John Rees (bass), Greg Ham (sax, keyboards), and Jerry Speiser (drums). They won the Best New Artist Grammy Award in 1982. John Rees and Jerry Speiser left in 1984, next to leave was Ron Strykert. In 2010 a music publishing company won an action against the group over the use of "Kookaburra" for the flute line in "Down Under", they owned the publishing rights unfortunately for the group.

It was then developed by Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne who had joined Roy Wood after being in the group Idle Race which Roy Wood had left earlier. Roy Wood left E.L.O. after the first album and formed Wizzard. Jeff Lynne then took over and E.L.O. had 15 top ten hits on the UK chart, their only number one hit was "Xanadu" with Olivia Newton-John. They had seven top ten hits on the US pop chart but no number one hits.

She has had two top ten hits on the US pop chart but no number one hits. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 but after surgery and chemotherapy she picked up her career in 2006. In 2008 she was awarded the CBE in the UK and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, which is France's highest cultural honour.
