1. "Yellow Submarine"
Answer: The Beatles
"Yellow Submarine" was on the Beatles' 1966 album "Revolver" and the opening track on the Beatles. 1969 album of the same name. It featured Ringo Starr on lead vocals. The song was intended as a children's song and went to number one in many countries, apart from USA where it was kept off the top spot by the Supremes with "You Can't Hurry Love".
2. "Mellow Yellow"

Donovan Leitch from Scotland had hit after hit in the 60s and was at one point touted as the UK version of Bob Dylan. This track from 1967 (1966 in USA) was allegedly about smoking banana skins in an attempt to get high and reached number two in USA and Canada and number eight in UK. Trivia bonus - In 1966, Donovan became the first British pop star to be arrested for cannabis possession.
3. "Yellow Ledbetter"

"Yellow Ledbetter" is one of the most recognised tracks by Pearl Jam, but surprisingly has never been released as a single in its own right, instead it was the B side of the 1992 single, "Jeremy", which hit the top ten in Ireland.

From the album "Rolling Papers" (2011). "Black And Yellow" became Wiz Khalifa's first USA number one and is about his black and yellow Dodge Challenger. The song also went top ten in UK and Canada but failed to break the top 20 in Australia or New Zealand. He would have more success in 2015 with "See You Again" which hit the top spot all around the world.
5. "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree"
Answer: Tony Orlando And Dawn
This track was a massive 1973 hit for Tony Orlando And Dawn, hitting number one in UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand among others. Although most people associate the song with a felon being released from prison, song writer L. Russell Brown insists that this is incorrect, and the song is about a Union prisoner of war coming home from a Confederate POW camp.
The song has been covered by artists as diverse as Bing Crosby and Dolly Parton.
6. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
Answer: Elton John
Taken from Elton's 1973 album of the same name, this track is considered by many critics to be the pinnacle of his songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin, although the only country in which it reached number one was Canada, stalling at number six in UK and kept off the top in USA by The Carpenters with "Top Of The World" and Charlie Rich singing "The Most Beautiful Girl."
In 1960, this track gave Brian Hyland his only number one in USA, although French singer Dalida did take the French version, "Itsy bitsy petit bikini" to number one in France, Belgium and Canada the same year. In 1993, the song was covered by Muppets, Kermit and Miss Piggy.
8. "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow"
Answer: Frank Zappa
Released from Zappa's 1974 album "Apostrophe (')", this track gave him his first USA chart hit, reaching number 86. On the album, the track is part of a suite, comprising "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow", "Nanook Rubs It", "St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast", and "Father O'Blivion", but as a single it just featured the first two tracks and a brief part of the introduction of the third.
9. "Big Yellow Taxi"
Answer: Joni Mitchell
Although Mitchell wrote the track, and hers is by far the best version, this was originally a hit for The Neighbourhood in 1970. Mitchell released her version the same year, which got to number 67 in USA compared to number 29 by The Neighbourhood. Mitchell did manage to go top 20 in Canada and UK though, as well as top ten in Australia. Counting Crows do a great live version of this song.
10. "The Yellow Rose Of Texas"
Answer: Mitch Miller
A USA number one for Miller in 1955, the lyrics referring to African American people have thankfully been changed several times since the song was first published in 1858. The song was also used in the 1956 movie "Giant" starring James Dean, Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor.
