Walter Brown was a staff songwriter for the television show and was offered the opportunity to compose a song for the finale featuring inspiration from Reverend Martin Luther King's speeches.

When they signed with Capitol Records the band underwent some personnel changes and also changed their name. Crowded House was a reference to the small apartment the members were living in while recording their 1986 "Crowded House" album. Their first release, "Mean to Me", failed to dent the US charts. "Don't Dream It's Over" was released in December of 1986 and became an international success.

The band broke up ten years later and has occasionally reunited.

When founding member Dave Guard left The Kingston Trio in 1961 members Nick Reynolds and Bob Shane selected John Reynolds as his replacement. Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes and Barry McGuire are among the alumni of The New Christy Minstrels. Carnes and Rogers later teamed up to record "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer"

"Dream Lover" peaked at Number Two in the US. Bobby Darin was not confident the song would be successful but the arrangement by Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records propelled the song up the charts. Bobby sang "Dream Lover" when he made his first of five appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" on May 31, 1959.
A year later Darin topped the charts for nine weeks with "Mack the Knife" and met his wife, Sandra Dee.
Neil Sedaka played piano on the recording of "Dream Lover" before he achieved success as a solo artist.

Freedom Records signed Johnny in 1958 and his fourth single, "You're Sixteen", gained national attention. He continued to release singles and tour until he was killed in a boating accident in 1964 at the age of 30. Roy Brown had a fifties hit with "Good Rocking Tonight". Willie Chambers of the Chamber Brothers did not record any successful solo efforts. Phil Every wrote "Don't Say You Don't Love Me No More" for Clint Eastwood's "Every Which Way But Loose" film in 1978 and performed it with Sondra Locke.
