Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which album did the following quote appear? "Spanish Johnny drove in from the underworld last night, with bruised arms and broken rythym in a beat up old Buick, but dressed just like dynamite."

Answer: The Wild, the Innocent, and the E-Street Shuffle

This is the first line from the classic song "Incident on 57th Street," which has remained a Springsteen fan favorite since Bruce's second album back in 1973.
2. From which album did the following quote appear? "Thunder Road, we were gonna take it all, and throw it all away"

Answer: 18 Tracks

This is a little tricky, because the term "Thunder Road" is used in several Bruce songs including, the song of the same name from the "Born to Run" album, but this line is taken from "The Promise." This tune was written during the mid Seventies, based upon Bruce's feelings about his litigation troubles with former manager Mike Appel, and was later recorded as a bonus track for the "18 Tracks" release.
3. From which album did the following quote appear? "Remember all the movies Terry that we'd go see, trying to learn how to walk like the heroes we thought we had to be."

Answer: Born to Run

This is probably my favorite Bruce line, taken from the classic "Backstreets."
4. From which album did the following quote appear? "If she wants to see me, you can tell her that I'm easily found."

Answer: Darkness on the Edge of Town

This one is taken from the title track of "Darkness on the Edge of Town", an album that many consider Bruce's best. Released in 1978, it contained some of Bruce's best guitar work, and was a key in the transition of Bruce's songwriting where his characters began to take on more blue-collar roles.
5. From which album did the following quote appear? "If there's somebody struggling to be free, look in their eyes Ma and you'll see me."

Answer: The Ghost of Tom Joad

Taken from the title track of "The Ghost of Tom Joad." This song was heavily inspired by the book "The Grapes of Wrath," noting that the main focus is on the character Tom Joad from the Steinbeck classic.
6. From which album did the following quote appear? "Been on a barbed wire highway 40 days and nights. I ain't complain'n that's my job and it suits me right."

Answer: Devils and Dust

This one is off of the song "Maria's Bed," one of the more catchy offerings on Bruce's semi-folk album "Devils and Dust."
7. From which album did the following quote appear? "Looking for a little bit of god's mercy, I found living proof."

Answer: Lucky Town

Off of the song "Living Proof" from Bruce's underrated album from 1992, "Lucky Town". "Lucky Town" was released on the same day as Springsteen's "Human Touch" LP, and is considered by most to be the better of the two albums; it is significantly less polished than "Human Touch."
8. From which album did the following quote appear? "They wanted to know why I did what I did, well Sir I guess there's just a meanness in this world."

Answer: Nebraska

This one's from the title track of "Nebraska." Recorded over a four-day period, on a 4-track recorder, "Nebraska" was intended to just be demo tape to help save money on recording costs. Upon repeated attempts to create a full-band album from the demo, it was decided that it would be released in its orginal form. If you listen hard, you can actually hear a rocking chair creaking in the background on one song!
9. From which album did the following quote appear? "At night on them banks I'd lie awake, and pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take"

Answer: The River

This one is also from a title track, this time from "The River," an album where we first really see Bruce trying his hand at pop music, with his songwriting occasionally taking a back seat to catchy hooks.
10. From which album did the following quote appear? "Now Sir you tell me the world's changed, once I made you rich enough, righ enough to forget my name."

Answer: The Ghost of Tom Joad

Taken from the song "Youngstown" which is in my opinion the best song from "The Ghost of Tom Joad." This song became a fan favorite on the 1999 Reunion Tour, where the originally acoustic track was re-worked into a three-guitar powerhouse.
11. From which album did the following quote appear? "Well now home entertainment was my baby's wish, so I hopped into town for a satellite dish."

Answer: Human Touch

From the song "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)" which is considered by many to be the worst Springsteen song ever released as a single, taken from the "Human Touch" album, which many consider to be Bruce's weakest album released to date.
12. From which album did the following quote appear? "In the crowded marketplace, I drift from face to face. I hold my breath and close my eyes. I hold my breath and close my eyes, and I wait for paradise."

Answer: The Rising

Release in 2002, the album "The Rising" was heavily insprired by the events of September 11th. Several songs tell the tale of American heroes, as well as their family affected by the attacks. In the song "Paradise," Bruce takes on a different perspective, singing from the viewpoint of a suicide bomber.
13. From which album did the following quote appear? "When they said sit down, I stood up."

Answer: Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.

Taken from "Growin' Up," off of Bruce's first album, this line captured the youthful defiance that Bruce's early work focused upon.
14. From which album did the following quote appear? "Show a little faith, there's magic in the night. You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright, and that's alright with me.

Answer: Born to Run

One of Bruce's more famous lines, taken from the classic "Thunder Road."
15. From which album did the following quote appear? "Well her brains they rattle and her bones they shake, Oh she's an angel from the inner lake."

Answer: Tracks

Taken from the song "Thundercrack," which was one of Bruce's staple songs during his live shows in the early 70's. It didn't make it onto any officially released material until 1998's "Tracks," which gave Bruce fans access to tons of previously unreleased songs, spanning his entire career.
