"Sunshine On My Shoulders" was John Denver's third consecutive Top Ten hit according to the Billboard Pop charts and was his first number one record. It knocked Cher's "Dark Lady" out of that spot on March 30, 1974 and stayed there one week before being knocked off by Blue Swede's quirky rendition of "Hooked On A Feeling".

Edwards was recording his self-named album when one of the tracks accidentally got erased and "Sunshine" was added to fill the spot. It would be his only Top 40 hit and would be covered many times over the years, including a bluegrass version by Edwards himself with the popular bluegrass band The Seldom Scene.
