Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1989, the rave call to arms 'We Call It Acieed', woke chartland up to the growing silliness! Who was responsible for this tune?

Answer: D-Mob

And all of a sudden the local disco was full of sweaty loons waving their arms willy-nilly.
2. Before this, a dude from Detroit wrote a piano-house-techno floor filler named 'Strings Of Life' which you couldn't move for hearing at one point. Who was that man?

Answer: Derrick May

Total euphoric hands in the air joy! CND symbols came back into fashion.
3. What was the name of the laidback clarinet led anthem by 808 State that gave them their first hit?

Answer: Pacific

Oceanic, incidentally, were responsible for a piece of chart-rave stupidity called 'Insanity'. Sales of bottled water increased ten-fold.
4. An ex member of 808 State, this Guy released minimalistic classic 'Voodoo Ray'. A Guy Called ... ?

Answer: Gerald

Around about this time, somebody decided it was a good idea to drag tie-dye out of the Sixties. It wasn't.
5. 'French Kiss' had the radio stations in a fluster due to the rather suggestive moaning in it's slow middle section. What was the name of the 'Li'l' pervert responsible?

Answer: Louis

This one still sounds fresh as a daisy and can be seen in many a well respected DJ's box to this day. Originally, people would listen to this with bandanas on their heads.
6. What is the surname of the bald-headed brothers, Phil and Paul, who were responsible for the very lovely 'Chime', and started a trend for natty head torches?

Answer: Hartnoll

Orbital! All the surnames, including Hartnoll, were of Doctor Who actors and an Orbital live favourite is their cover of the Doctor Who theme! Beany hats became a must-have fashion item (presumably to hold fried brains in place).
7. An easy one: Liam Howlett sampled a British public information film for kids featuring a little boy and his cat named Charly. Aided by a couple of his unstable mates, what name did Liam record under?

Answer: The Prodigy

Charly says 'MweeowwMmmewowoWMmmeowwm'. The little boy interprets this as a warning against talking to strangers. It just as easily could have been a request for Tuna. Big baggy flares were all over the place. They looked silly.
8. This bunch mutated from a dour Aberdonian indie band into technicolour rave muppets, releasing the anthem 'Pro-Gen' to confirm their transformation. Who were they?

Answer: The Shamen

'Progen' later became 'Move Any Mountain' when it was re-released as an editted single. Bass player Will Sinnott unfortunately died in a diving accident, while Mr C has gone on to become a respected DJ. Mysteriously, people at this point in history used to really, really love blowing whistles in time with the beat.
9. What did Praga Khan insist he was 'Injected With'?

Answer: A Poison

Chemists all over Britain sold out of Vicks Vapo-rub, because shuffling blokes in flares, beany hats, tie-dyed CND shirts with whistles round their necks were too busy putting dollops of it into dust masks in the mistaken belief it would get them high. It's very good for muscular aches and pains though!
10. 'LFO' by LFO was an early British techno anthem. What does LFO, in this case, stand for?

Answer: Low Frequency Oscillator

That was easy, wasn't it? The Light Funky Ones really messed up my attempts to download LFO tunes from Napster. There was I thinking 'Ooh! Never heard that one!'. How disappointing! I do hope you've enjoyed my little rave quiz as much as I enjoyed raving!
