Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Where did we lose the touch, that used to mean so much, it always made me feel so...'

Answer: Free As A Bird

John had recorded an unfinished version of 'Free As A Bird' before his death, sometime around 1977. In 1990 Paul, George, and Ringo worked on it, making it a true Beatles' song.
2. 'You know I love you. I'll always be true, so please...'

Answer: Love Me Do

'Love Me Do' was the Beatles' first release and was recorded three times, each time with a different drummer (Pete Best, Ringo Starr, and Andy White).
3. 'How do you do what you do to me, I wish I knew. If I knew how you do it to me, I'd do it to you.'

Answer: How Do You Do It

This song was written by Mitch Murray, and was George Martin's choice for the A-side of their first single. The Beatles didn't like it and felt strongly about using only their own songs for singles, and George gave in. He later gave the song to Gerry and the Pacemakers who took it to #1.
The Beatles' first single was released with 'Love Me Do' on the A-side, and 'P.S. I Love You' on the B-side.
4. 'Last night I said these words to my girl, I know you never even try girl. Come on, come on, come on, come on...'

Answer: Please Please Me

A Lennon/McCartney original, this song was released as their second single, becoming their first # 1 hit in the U.K.
5. 'Move over once, move over twice, come on baby don't be cold as ice. She said she's travelling on...'

Answer: One After 909

The Beatles attempted to record a version of this song on the same day that they recorded their third single, but were unable to produce a cut that they were happy with. A version did eventually appear on the 'Let It Be' album six years later.
6. 'Imagine I'm in love with you, it's easy 'cause I know, I've imagined I'm in love with you many, many, many times before. It's not like me to pretend...'

Answer: I'll Get You

This is one of the songs that the Beatles performed on October 13, 1963 on 'Val Parnell's Sunday Night At The London Palladium', which was the British equivalent to 'The Ed Sullivan Show' here in North America.
7. 'If there's anything that you want, if there's anything I can do. Just call on me and I'll send it along...'

Answer: From Me To You

This was the A-side of their third single, and one of the five songs that they recorded for a Swedish radio program. Their popularity in Sweden grew at about the same rate and time as it did in Britain, so their first overseas concert (not counting the early Hamburg days) was in Sweden.
8. 'You think you lost your love, well I saw her yesterday. It's you she's thinking of, and she told me what to say.'

Answer: She Loves You

Released as a single in August of 1963, where it remained # 1 for five weeks. Then it made a second appearance in the #1 spot in December of 1963. It is considered to be the song which really cemented the Beatles' popularity in Great Britain.
9. 'There were bells on the hill but I never heard them ringing, no I never heard them at all...'

Answer: Till There Was You

This song, from 'The Music Man', was one of the four played by the Beatles at the 'Royal Command Performance' at the Prince of Wales Theatre on Nov. 4, 1963. It was introduced by Paul as being by their 'favourite American group, Sophie Tucker'.
10. 'C'mon, c'mon, c'mon baby now, c'mon and work it on out. Well you twist little girl, you know you twist so fine. C'mon and twist a little closer, and let me know that you're mine.'

Answer: Twist and Shout

This was another one of the songs that they performed at the 'Royal Command Performance'. John caused a bit of a stir when he opened the song by asking, 'Would the people in the cheaper seats clap their hands? And the rest of you, if you'll just rattle your jewellery.'
11. 'Close your eyes and I'll kiss you, tomorrow I'll miss you, remember I'll always be true. And then while I'm away I'll write home every day...'

Answer: All My Loving

This was the first song the Beatles performed on their first appearance of 'The Ed Sullivan Show'. An estimated 73 million people tuned in to watch as the Beatles carved themselves a niche in American pop culture.
12. 'I give her all my love, that's all I do and if you saw my love you'd love her too.'

Answer: And I Love Her

Recorded on Feb. 27, 1964 for the album 'A Hard Day's Night', this is one of McCartney's first ballads.
13. 'But when I get home to you, I find the things that you do will make me feel alright. You know I work all day to get you money to buy you things and it's worth it just to hear you say you're gonna give me everything.'

Answer: A Hard Day's Night

This title song to their first movie was never performed in the movie because it wasn't finished until they had almost finished filming the movie.
14. 'Love you like no other baby like no other can, love you like no other baby, like no other can.'

Answer: I Wanna Be Your Man

Released on 'With the Beatles', this was one of the few songs on which Ringo sang lead. The Rolling Stones also released this as their second single and had their first major hit with it.
15. 'Oooh I need your love babe, guess you know it's true. Hope you need my love babe, just like I need you. Hold me, love me, hold me, love me...'

Answer: Eight Days a Week

This Lennon/McCartney original was recorded at Abbey Road on Oct. 6, 1964. It's interesting to listen to the different cuts of the song and hear the different approaches that the Beatles experimented with before coming up with the final version of the song.
