Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From "Callin' In Sick", what is the missing lyric? "Maybe I'll spend all day staring at the sun and trying not to squint. Maybe I'll make a huge ____________ from my belly button lint."

Answer: colored tapestry

From the 1996 "Bad Hair Day" album, this is my theme song on days where I just don't feel like going to work. Other lyrics from the song include:
"When I'm sick of taking abuse, I just think up some lame excuse. Freedom is just seven digits away." and "I could sit and count my hair. I could burp my Tupperware. I'm not busy now anyway."
2. "Cavity Search" is a parody of a song from which group?

Answer: U2

"Cavity Search" is a parody of "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2. It is available on the "Batman Forever" soundtrack - the 1995 movie started Val Kilmer that was the third installment to the Batman movie franchise.

Weird Al has parodied Nirvana and The Killers but never Prince (or shall I say The Artist Formerly Known As). Weird Al has come out publicly to say that he has requested to do parodies of several Prince songs, including "Purple Rain" but Prince will not release the rights to his music. Too bad!
3. The "White and Nerdy" video was released a few months ago. Who does not make a cameo appearance in it?

Answer: Florence Henderson

Florence appears in the "Amish Paradise" video, not "White and Nerdy". The song is off Al's latest album, "Straight Outta Lynwood". In this video, Seth Green is showing off his action figure collection, Judy Tenuta is the lucky recipient of an electric power cord and Donny Osmond is doing all the crazy dances next to Weird Al.

Check out the Wikipedia page for "White and Nerdy" where there are a ton of interesting facts about this video.
4. What dessert treat do Al's friends offer him in the beginning of the "Fat" video?

Answer: Ding-Dong

Before the music starts, Al's fat friends try to entice him with all sorts of fatty foods, which he refuses. In his live performances, Al dons his fat suit to sing this song. This is a parody of Michael Jackson's song and video, "Bad".
5. "You Don't Love Me Anymore" is about unrequited love and all the rotten things his lover does to him after they break up. What is not mentioned?

Answer: pull out nose hairs with pliers

The lyric actually says "You set my house in fire, you pulled out my chest hair with an old pair of pliers". This is from the 1992 "Off the Deep End" album.

Weird Al has such a way of capturing the essence of love, and love lost, in many of his songs including "Since You've Gone" and "One More Minute". Some memorable lyrics are "I'd rather have my blood sucked out by leeches, shove an ice pick under a toenail or two. I'd rather clean all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue, then spend one more minute with you." Classic!
6. In "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota", what time did the family cross the state line?

Answer: 6:39

"Well, we crossed the state line about 6:39 and we saw the sign that said, "Twine Ball Exit - fifty miles."

When I hear this song, I think of "National Lampoon's Vacation" - a middle class family going on a big adventure. Three days worth of travel and the family in the song arrives at the twine ball 20 minutes before it closes, at 7:37 in the evening.

"We parked the car and walked with awe-filled reverence toward that glorious huge, majestic sphere.
I was just so overwhelmed by its sheer immensity, I had to pop myself a beer.
Yes on these hallowed grounds, open 10 to 8 on weekdays,
in a little shrine under a makeshift pagoda,
There sits the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota."
7. Weird Al has an extensive list of artists whose songs he's parodied, including Madonna, Nirvana and Michael Jackson. Whose song(s) has Al never parodied?

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

It's true, no Bruce! Parodies he has done are:
"King of Suede" a parody of "King of Pain" by The Police
"Syndicated, Inc." a parody of "Misery" by Soul Asylum
"Fat" and "Eat It", parodies of popular Michael Jackson hits and
"I Want a New Duck", making fun "I Want a New Drug" by Huey Lewis & the News.

The list goes on and on!
8. In "You're Pitiful" what video game is mentioned?

Answer: Halo 2

Al recorded "You're Pitiful", a parody of James Blunt's "You're Beautiful". Al got the artists blessing to go ahead with the song and it was supposed to be available on Al's latest record. But shortly before its release, Blunt's recording label denied Al permission to the song's rights.

The song never was including in "Straight Outta Lynwood" but can be heard on the web. Too bad because it is a great song - clever lyrics and Al sounds just like the original artist.
9. In which video do we see all of Weird Al's band members?

Answer: Amish Paradise

You can also catch them in "Smells Like Nirvana", "Since You've Been Gone" and "Gump". His band consists of Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz (drums), Steve Jay (bass) and Jim West (guitar). These talented individuals make Weird Al's music great and they all get into the act during live concert performances with costumes and makeup.
10. Where did Al get "a used pink bathrobe"?

Answer: EBay

"A used pink bathrobe. A rare, mint snow globe. A Smurf TV tray. I bought on EBay." For anyone who has used EBay, you know just how appropriate this song is. You can buy anything you want on Ebay including "a Kleenex used by Dr. Dre".
