Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following was the third song off the third album from Third Eye Blind?

Answer: Forget Myself

"Forget Myself" was on the band's third album entitled "Out Of The Vein". It was released in 2003. Their first hit single called "Semi-Charmed Life" appeared on their 1997 self-titled debut.

Third Eye Blind were formed in the early 1990s around the San Francisco area.
2. Billy Gibbons, the lead guitarist for the three man band ZZ Top, was given a pink Fender Stratocaster as a gift from which of these legendary guitarists?

Answer: Jimi Hendrix

Billy Gibbons played in a band called Moving Sidewalks and they did a few shows with Jimi Hendrix in the late 1960s. Hendrix was very impressed with Gibbons' guitar work and even heralded him as a player to watch for in the future. In a 1990 interview, Billy Gibbons said he still owned the guitar.

ZZ Top have had several successful albums and singles over the years. The Jimi Hendrix Experience were also a trio who were quite popular in the short time they were together. Jimi Hendrix died in 1970.
3. What song from Led Zeppelin's third album contained the line, "You hear her cries of mercy as the winners toll the bell"?

Answer: Celebration Day

Keeping with the theme for this quiz, it's ironic that this song was the third track on Led Zeppelin's third album. The band simply titled this 1970 album "III". It was produced by guitarist Jimmy Page.

"Immigrant Song" could be heard in the 2003 movie "School Of Rock" starring Jack Black, Sarah Silverman and Joan Cusack. Black's character was singing along to it as he and some of his students were riding in his van.
4. During the song "The 12 Days Of Christmas", three French hens are given as gifts. The line goes, "On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me..." In actuality, my true love didn't actually give three birds. What the hens represented were hope, faith and what?

Answer: Love

According to history of the song, the "gifts" given on each day represented something other than what was mentioned. By Christian belief, "my true love" was actually meant to be God. The line goes, "My true love gave to me" and "me" represented all who believed.

Faith, hope and love were what the three French hens represented. These are the three theological virtues discussed in the Bible in the first book of Corinthians.

The history of "The 12 Days Of Christmas" is a very interesting read. Unfortunately, it is too lengthy for me to go into detail. Check it out sometime.
5. Which of these bands did NOT release an album called "III"?

Answer: Quiet Riot

The name of the album was "QR III". It was released in 1986 and videos for the songs "The Wild And The Young" and "Twilight Hotel" received a little airplay on television. However, the album didn't quite match in sales the band's 1983 release "Metal Health".

Van Halen's album called "III" was actually their 13th album. It featured Gary Cherone on lead vocals. He was also Van Halen's third singer. Cherone also recorded an album with Extreme called "III Sides To Every Story".

Some other musicians who have used "III" as an album title include Chicago, Joe Nichols, Moistboyz, Giant and Led Zeppelin, just to name a few.
6. Which of these songs contained the line, "There's got to be someone we can trust"?

Answer: "Three Marlenas" by The Wallflowers

This song could be found on the 1996 album called "Bringing Down The Horse". It featured the band's hit single "One Headlight". The Wallflowers line-up included Jakob Dylan. He is the son of singer/songwriter Bob Dylan.

"Three Marlenas" did manage to spend some time on the Billboard Magazine Top 40 but never charted as high as other Wallflowers songs such as "One Headlight" or "6th Avenue Heartache".
7. Triumph, the three-man band from Canada, released an album titled "Allied Forces" and followed it with one called "Never Surrender". The third songs from both of these albums had something in common. What was it?

Answer: They were both instrumentals

"Air Raid" was the title for the third song on "Allied Forces" and "Never Surrender" had a short instrumental called "A Minor Prelude" as track number three.

Triumph have often been compared to the rock band Rush. Both are made up of three members and both hailed from Canada. Triumph's music didn't lyrically delve on the same subject matter as Rush were known for but both groups were diverse in their musical talents.

Triumph were formed in 1975. They remained a trio, for most of their duration, until adding guitarist/keyboardist Rick Santers for their last three tours. Despite their success, guitarist Rik Emmett performed with the group for the last time in September of 1988. He went on to pursue a solo career.
8. The 1992 concert video from Genesis, called "Three Sides Live", featured three different people on the drums at various points throughout the show. Which of the following did NOT perform drums or percussion?

Answer: Alan White

The album "Three Sides Live" was released in 1982. It has been re-released in a variety of forms with some song changes over the years. Since it was originally released on vinyl, the fourth side contained studio tracks in North America. Internationally, side four had some rare live recordings from various Genesis tours. In 1994, the album was reissued and the studio cuts were omitted.

The 1992 concert release contained quite a bit of footage from the band's tour in support of the album "Abacab". There was also a cameo from guitarist Steve Hackett on the song "It/Watcher Of The Skies". You would really need to watch it to appreciate the genius of this band.

Alan White played drums for the progressive rock band Yes. He replaced drummer Bill Bruford in late 1972.
9. Sometimes a band will go so far as to have a third guitarist playing in the group; Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and Eagles to name a few. This was also the case with the Little River Band. What was the name of the third album from Little River Band?

Answer: Diamantina Cocktail

The band had a minor hit with the song "Help Is On It's Way" from this 1977 release. The band would go on to have greater success when the 1980s rolled around. They had several Top 40 songs such as "Take It Easy On Me", "Night Owls" and "Man On Your Mind".

Little River Band have undergone a few changes in their line-up but the three original guitarists were Rick Formosa, Beeb Birtles and Graeham Goble. Birtles was once a member of a band called Zoot, along with singer/actor Rick Springfield.

Little River Band were formed in Australia. Although they still performed, no original members were in the band by 1990.
10. The front cover of the album "Three Lock Box" featured Sammy Hagar pictured inside of what?

Answer: A woman's mouth

The cover had a pair of very red female lips opened up with one Sammy Hagar inside. He was playing a red guitar and wearing a red shirt. Hagar has often associated himself with the color red and also went by the nickname "The Red Rocker".

This album was released in 1983. It included the songs "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy" and "Rise Of The Animal".
