2. "Lonely, I'm Mister Lonely. I have nobody for my own". Bobby Vinton had a Billboard Number One single with this song in 1964. What was the cause of Mr. Lonely's forelorn state of mind?

Answer: He was a soldier away from home

3. "Everybody here is going out and having fun. I'm a fool for staying home and having none. I can't get over how she set me free. Oh, Lonesome Me". It's a song on Neil Young's solo album "After The Gold Rush"; who wrote it?

Answer: Don Gibson

In 1958 Don Gibson swept every country music award there was with his hit "Oh Lonesome Me"; that same year he also offered up "I Can't Stop Loving You". Gibson's original version is up-tempo country swing; Neil Young's is brooding and haunting. Don Gibson was enshrined in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001; Neil Young entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 as a solo artist and in 1997 as a member of the Buffalo Springfield.
4. "Have you heard about the Lonesome Loser? Beaten by the Queen of Hearts every time. Have you heard about the Lonesome Loser? He's a loser but he still keeps on trying". Which band/solo artist sang us this tale of woe?

Answer: Little River Band

From the album "First Under The Wire" [1979], "Lonesome Loser" made it to Number Three on the Billboard charts. The original members of The Little River Band met in London, England while touring with other groups and formed the band upon their return to Australia in 1975. They released their first self-titled album that same year.
5. "Sittin' here restin' my bones, this loneliness won't leave me alone. It's 2000 miles I've roamed just to make this dock my home." What's the title of this mega-hit by Otis Redding?

Answer: Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay

From Otis Redding's final album "Dock Of The Bay", recorded before his death in a plane crash in 1967 at the age of 26. The sad story is that he finally achieved the cross-over hit and recognition he had sought for his whole career only after his death. "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" was a Billboard Number One single in 1968.
6. "Good Morning Mr. Sunshine, you brighten up my day. Come sit beside me in your way. Lonely Days, lonely nights. Where would I be without my woman?". What band/solo artist recorded this song?

Answer: The Bee Gees

From their 1971 album "Two Years On", "Lonely Days" hit Number Two on the Billboard charts in October of 1970. Early in their career, The Bee Gees often drew favorable comparisons to The Beatles. "Lonely Days" may have been the most Beatle-esque of all their recordings, complete with a John Lennon sound-a-like Barry Gibb on the "Where would I be without my woman" hook.
7. "She calls me "baby". She calls everybody "baby". It's a lonely old night....". Please complete this John Mellencamp lyric.

Answer: but ain't they all.

From the hit album "Scarecrow" [1985]. This is the album that took John Mellencamp away form his pop persona John Cougar and propelled him into rock and roll superstadom with hits like "Rain On The Scarecrow", "Small Town", "R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A.", and of course "Lonely Old Night".
8. "...and take a last flying look at the last lonely ______." Do you know what endangered species is referred to in this New Riders of the Purple Sage lyric?

Answer: eagle

From their 1971 self-titled first album, "The Last Lonely Eagle" was the New Riders' homage to the vanishing wilderness as well as the vanishing spirit of freedom and independence that had flourished in the "Hippy" nation. "'Cause the people who live round the bend in the river have forgotten their dreams and they've cut off their hair".
9. "Lonesome and lonely and far from my home, tryin' to get back where I know I belong. Wishin' and hopin' I was already there, I just heard a voice whisper in my ear...". From what Outlaws song are these lyrics taken?

Answer: There Goes Another Love Song

Along with "Ghost Riders [In The Sky]", "There Goes Another Love Song" [from their 1975 self-titled first album] is probably The Outlaws' most popular and best-known song. After an almost 10 year run as a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws' leader/founder/songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Hughie Thomasson re-formed The Outlaws in 2005, bringing back original drummers David Dix and Monte Yoho and guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Henry Paul as well as Paul's BlackHawk bandmates Randy Threet [bass/vocals] and keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins, in addition to guitarist/vocalist Chris Anderson. Paul and Robbins left the band during the 2006 tour to begin work on a new BlackHawk project.
10. "Lonesome can drive a man insane. Lonesome, it's the sad part of the game. Win some, lose some, lonesome." What country outlaw artist[s] recorded this lyric?

Answer: Montgomery - Gentry

From their 2002 album "My Town". Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry were members of a 1990's Kentucky barband called Young Country when, in 1994, Gentry left the band to seek fame as a solo artist in Nashville. Failing to achieve that status, he called on Eddie to join him and the duo slowly built a following, finally releasing their first album, "Scars and Tattoos", in 1999.

In 2000, they won the Country Music Academy vocal duo of the year award.
