Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first line of U2's 1993 song 'Zooropa' contained lyrics incorporating the advertising slogan of which European car manufacturer?

Answer: Audi

The song starts off with the line 'Zooropa ... Vorsprung durch Technik'. In German, this means 'advantage through technology' and is used by Audi in its advertising campaigns.
2. U2's first release was a 1978 EP called 'U2:3' that, not surprisingly, contained three songs. The B-sides were 'Boy/Girl' and 'Stories for Boys'. What was the A-side?

Answer: Out of Control

'Out of Control' also appeared on U2's 1980 debut album, 'Boy'. It deals with the realisation of a young man that the two most significant aspects of his life - his birth and death - are completely out of his control.
3. U2 has won more Grammy Awards than any other band, with 14. How many did they win in 2002, to reach this total?

Answer: Four

'All That You Can't Leave Behind' was nominated for eight awards, and won for Record of the Year (for 'Walk On'); Pop Performance by a duo or group with vocal (for 'Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of'); Rock Performance by a duo or group with vocal (for 'Elevation'); and Rock Album (for 'All That You Can't Leave Behind').
4. Which of U2's albums was written in just six months after Bono had his lyrics stolen at a show in Oregon?

Answer: October

U2 had played a concert in Seattle on March 22, 1981, and it is believed that after the show, a group of girls met them backstage. They absconded with Bono's briefcase full of lyrics, which had already taken the band a year to put together. That they were able to put out an album - their second - after that experience is a testament to what a great band they are!
5. Which of these U2 songs features Bono on lead vocal?

Answer: If God Will Send His Angels

'Seconds', from the 'War' album; 'Van Diemen's Land', from the 'Rattle and Hum' album, and 'Numb', from the 'Zooropa' album, all feature the Edge, normally U2's guitarist, on lead vocal.
6. Who is the author of the book from which U2's 2000 song 'The Ground Beneath Her Feet' takes its title?

Answer: Salman Rushdie

This song appeared on the soundtrack to "Million Dollar Hotel', the 2000 movie whose screenplay was written by Bono. Outside the USA, it also appeared as the final track on 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'.
7. What nationality is U2's main photographer, Anton Corbijn?

Answer: Dutch

U2's bass player Adam Clayton took great enjoyment out of the fact that Anton Corbijn, despite taking the most famous photos of the band around the Joshua tree, couldn't pronounce the "J" sound and called them 'Yoshua' trees.
8. Who was the only member of U2 to have a proper day job when the band was first formed?

Answer: Larry Mullen Jr.

Larry's job as a courier meant he was often absent from U2 activities like photo shoots, rehearsals and even gigs.
9. Which U2 album cover does not feature an image of all the band members?

Answer: Zooropa

The cover of 'Zooropa' is a bit obsucre, featuring bright colours and strange symbols.
10. According to U2's 2002 song "Electrical Storm', what is 'heavy, heavy as a truck'?

Answer: The Air

This song, which appears on U2's 'Best of 1990-2000', is about a couple who equate their troubled relationship to the fierce storm that is surrounding them outside.
