Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the series of concerts, organised by Amnesty International, that U2 took part in during 1986?

Answer: Conspiracy of Hope

The Conspiracy of Hope tour was designed by Amnesty to raise awareness of their cause - to fight abuses of human rights - and U2 was one of the first acts to agree to take part. The concerts also featured artists such as Joan Baez, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Bob Geldof, and Bryan Adams.
2. In 1993, U2's drummer, Larry Mullen Jr., and bassist, Adam Clayton, played a part in a band called Automatic Baby. Two members of which other band were involved in this project?

Answer: R.E.M.

The one-off band took their name from the albums that U2 and R.E.M had released respectively at the time - "Achtung 'Baby'"
and "'Automatic' for the People". With Michael Stipe and Mike Mills, Larry and Adam played U2's song 'One' at Bill Clinton's 1993 inauguration.
3. Which of U2's albums was also made into a full-length documentary movie of the same name?

Answer: Rattle and Hum

'Rattle and Hum', the album, was a special extra-long edition featuring live tracks, like 'Pride (In the Name of Love)' and 'I Still Haven't Found what I'm Looking For', that had already appeared on 'The Unforgettable Fire' and 'The Joshua Tree' respectively; as well as new studio songs like 'Desire' and 'When Love Comes to Town'.

The movie of the same name followed U2's tour throughout the United States, which was pertinent because American jazz and R&B music had inspired U2 on this particular album.
4. In what city did U2 play their first American concert, in 1980?

Answer: New York

U2 played at New York's Ritz Hotel, on December 6, 1980, more than three months before their debut album, 'Boy' was released in the country on March 3, 1981. The album had, however, been on sale in Ireland and the UK since October 20, 1980.
5. Which of these U2 songs is performed as a duet with another artist?

Answer: Miss Sarajevo

'Miss Sarajevo' was recorded by U2 along with Luciano Pavarotti, one of the Three Tenors, for the 1996 album 'Passengers - Original Soundtracks 1'. This album featured artists, many of them connected to U2 in some way, singing individual songs under the combined name of Passengers.
6. What was U2's first platinum record?

Answer: The Unforgettable Fire

Despite receiving some fairly ordinary reviews, U2's fourth album, released in 1984, still managed the sales that would keep pushing U2 towards the worldwide success they have since achieved.
7. On the cover of the 'Pop' album, which band member's face is set on a red square?

Answer: The Edge

The cover of 'Pop' features a large square divided into four smaller ones, each a different colour, showing the photos of the four members of U2. The Edge is shown in red. Bono is in yellow. Larry is in green. Adam is in blue.
8. Which of these cities is named in U2's 1993 song, 'Stay (Faraway, So Close)'?

Answer: Berlin

This song, from the 'Zooropa' album, has a verse that mentions five cities, including Berlin. The others are Miami, New Orleans, London, and Belfast.
9. To which of these movies have no members of U2 contributed music to the soundtrack?

Answer: Being John Malkovich

U2's song 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me' appeared on the soundtrack to 'Batman Forever'; U2's rhythm section, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton, performed the theme song to 'Mission Impossible'; and Bono did a trio, 'Children of the Revolution', with Maurice Seezer and Gavin Friday, for the 'Moulin Rouge' soundtrack.
10. What was the first U2 album that was not recorded entirely at Windmill Lane Studios, in Dublin?

Answer: The Unforgettable Fire

1984's 'The Unforgettable Fire' was partly recorded at the historic Slane Castle, in Ireland's County Meath. Some songs were, however, also recorded at U2's original studio in Windmill Lane.
