Phantom Planet and Weezer are close friends, and PP often covers "El Scorcho" at live shows, with Jason Schwartzman on vocals. This is the only Phantom Planet song in which Jason lends his voice, which is a shame because it is very nice -- watch "Slackers" and find out for yourself! And while you're at it, rent "Rushmore", another teriffic movie he has been in.

Mykel and Carli Allen were fans of Weezer even before the "Blue Album", followed the band on tour during the summer, and often gave cookies to them backstage. Tragically, the twins died at age 17 in a car crash. About two weeks prior to the accident, Rivers wrote a song entitled "Mykel and Carli" which contains the line "...'til the schoolbus came and took my friends away, now I'm left alone at home to sit and think all day..." It is often believed that Rivers wrote this song in honor of Mykel and Carli after they died in the crash, thus the "schoolbus" reference. Actually, the "schoolbus" is symbolic of the fact that Mykel and Carli would soon be returning to school, and the band wouldn't see them again for months.

"Pinkerton" is loosely based on "Madame Butterfly". If you take the back CD cover out of the case (the one that lists the songs), there is a map displaying the names of several characters in the opera, as well as an island dedicated to Mykel and Carli.

"Yellow Camaro" was written by Brian and originally intended to be included on a Space Twins (Brian's side project) album. But Brian felt the song was too heavy for the Twins, so he introduced it to Weezer, and they recorded it with Brian on lead vocals.
