Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which member of The Police sang the following lines: "Your uniform don't seem to fit You're much too alive in it You've been letting your feelings show"?

Answer: Sting

The lyrics are from "Miss Gradenko," which, although composed by the drummer Stewart Copeland, was sung by Sting on the "Synchronicity" album, released in June of 1983.
2. Which Police-Man voiced the following words: "I needed inspiration, a brand new start in life Somewhere to place affection, but I didn't want a wife"?

Answer: Andy Summers

The lyrics are from "Be My Girl--Sally" from the 1978 "Outlandos D'Amour" album. Sting does sing the refrain at the beginning and the end of the song, but Andy chants the verses sandwiched between. The music and lyrics were composed by Andy, by the way.
3. Which band member chanted these words: "The telephone is screaming Won't she leave me alone"?

Answer: Andy Summers

These words are from "Mother," composed by Andy Summers and found on the "Synchronicity" album. While singing, Andy sounds as if he is a deranged paranoid, a tone of voice that fits perfectly with the words of a frustrated man who is obviously obsessed with a possessive mother.
4. Which band member of The Police vocalized the following: "Fall out fall out with all the leaders and gangs"?

Answer: Sting

Most apparently, this is part of the chorus to "Fallout," the first recording released by The Police. It was composed by Stewart Copeland, but Sting sang. Interestingly, Andy Summers had not joined the band yet, and the guitar is played by Stewart himself with a solo in the middle played by Henri Padovani.
5. Which member of The Police croons the following lyrics: "But darkness makes me fumble for a key to a door that's wide open"?

Answer: Sting

While the song "Darkness" was composed by Stewart Copeland, Sting does sing the words. The song can be found at the end of 1981's "Ghost in the Machine."
6. Which member of The Police provided vocal stylings for the following: "The other one's a complete ____ ____. You want something corny? You got it!"?

Answer: Stewart Copeland

These words are spoken by Stewart Copeland at the very beginning of the recording of "On Any Other Day" from "Regatta De Blanc," released in October of 1979. Sewart wrote the words and the music.
7. Whose voice do we hear singing the following pair of lines: "I change my clothes ten times before I take you on a date I'm in a cold sweat, I panic, and it makes me late"?

Answer: Stewart Copeland

These lyrics are from "Does Everyone Stare" on the "Regatta De Blanc" album. The song was written by Stewart, and he sings the first verse, from which these words come, while Sting takes over singing after that.
8. Whom do we hear singing these lines: "It's time for me to throw away this paper knife I'm not alone in reaching for a perfect life"?

Answer: Sting

These words are from "Omegaman," composed by Andy Summers. The song is found on the "Ghost in the Machine" album.
9. Which member of The Police provides the vocals for these lines: "The general scratches his belly and thinks His pay is good but his company stinks"?

Answer: Sting

"Bombs Away," composed by Stewart Copeland, is the source of these words. It can be found on the "Zenyatta Mondatta" album, released in 1980.
10. Finally, which member of The Police warbles these lines: "To know you is to eat you, the act of love supreme Each one of us inside himself can appetize the dream"?

Answer: Andy Summers

These words are from "Friends," a song published as a "B-side" to the "Don't Stand So Close to Me" single. The song was composed by Andy and sung completely by him. His inspiration was "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein, a book that discussed "grocking" (or eating) your friends. Sting had this to say about the song: "Andy's weirdest ideas made his best songs!"
