Nicola Sturgeon was born in the town of Irvine in Scotland in 1970. She became leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland after her predecessor Alex Salmond resigned after losing the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence. Sturgeon is the first woman to hold either of these positions.

Karen Gillan played the character of Amy Pond between 2010 and 2012 alongside the 11th Doctor played by Matt Smith. Judy Murray is well known for being the mother of tennis professionals Andy and Jamie Murray and is often seen cheering for them during their matches. She became the Scottish national tennis coach in 1995 and in 2011 took over as captain of the Great Britain Federation Cup team.
