Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the "odd man (or woman) out"?

Answer: Leslie Uggams

Why, it's Leslie Uggams. Uggams is an actress and a singer; in 1967 she won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for the show "Hallelujah, Baby", and in 1977 she played Kizzy Reynolds in the miniseries "Roots". Leslie Howard was an actor ("Gone with the Wind" playing Ashley Wilkes, another adrogenous name!); Leslie Nielsen was also an actor ("The Naked Gun"); Les Moonves is President and CEO of CBS (and married to Julie Chen - yet another androgeny).
2. Which Jamie does/did NOT play professional hockey?

Answer: Jamie Dimon

It seems there are a number of hockey players with the name Jamie; if you want to know their teams or positions or numbers, you could look it up. However, the one who doesn't fit is Jamie Dimon. Dimon is the Chairman, President and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, the largest of the 'Big Four' American Banks, i.e., Chase, Citi, Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

He has also been named in "Time' Magazine's" list of 'the world's 100 most influential people' (in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011).
3. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham belonged to what musical group?

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

Well, Steely Dan is all male and The Bangles are all female, but Barenaked Ladies are all men. To confuse you further, in the band Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks is the female (along with Christie McVie) and Lindsey Buckingham is the guy (along with Mick Fleetwood).

The androgynous names didn't seem to bother this group, which formed in London in 1967 and has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Lindsey Buckingham is no longer with Fleetwood Mac.
4. Of the following, which one did NOT play professional baseball?

Answer: Gale Sayers

Koufax, Ruth and Rodriguez have all been Major League Baseball players, while Gale Sayers (and, I might add Lynn Swann) was a professional football player. Sayers was a running back for the Chicago Bears ('da Bears') for his entire pro career from 1965 to 1971.

He was friendly with another player on the team, Brian Piccolo, and their friendship was the basis for the 1971 TV movie "Brian's Song" (if you want to see it or see it again, don't forget to bring tissues!)
5. Who doesn't belong?

Answer: Meredith Willson

While Baxter, Viera and McRae have all been female television personalities, Meredith Willson (1902-1984) was a male American composer, songwriter, conductor and playwright. He is, perhaps, best know for his 1962 hit Broadway musical "The Music Man"; he wrote the book, the music and the lyrics.
6. Who is the odd man (or woman) out?

Answer: Carol Reed

I could have given you Carroll O'Connor, but I thought that would be too easy. Sir Carol Reed (1906-1976) was a British film director who gave us movies like "Odd Man Out" (ironic?) in 1947 and "The Third Man" in 1949, with Orson Welles. Reed received an Academy Award for Best Director for the 1968 film "Oliver!", based, of course, on Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver Twist".
The other Carols are: Burnett (comedienne), Moseley Braun (politician) and Alt (model).
7. Robin Roberts is the name of both a famous man and a famous woman?

Answer: True

Robin Rene Roberts is the anchor for the ABC show "Good Morning America". In college she was a premier basketball player with 1,446 points and 1,034 rebounds. Additionally, she is an author, a cancer survivor and was named as one of the 31 icons of 2015's 'LGBT History Month'.
Robin Evans Roberts (1926-2010) was a Major League Baseball pitcher who spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies, and once pitched 28 complete games in a row. Roberts was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.
8. Which Joey had a father who was "The Merry Mailman"?

Answer: Heatherton

Does anyone remember Davenie Johanna 'Joey' Heatherton from the 1960s? She was a singer, dancer and actress, and the blond 'sex-kitten' equivalent of Ann-Margret. What was so ironic? about that was her father, Ray Heatherton, was "The Merry Mailman", a television show based on one of Heatherton's 1938 children's records.

The show ran from 1950 to 1956 and was a sort of precursor to shows like "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood".
9. Which Andrea is the opera singer?

Answer: Andrea Bocelli

Andrea Bocelli is an Italian classical tenor who has produced 14 solo studio albums which include both pop and classical music. At the age of 12, while Andrea was playing soccer (association football), he had an accident which left him totally blind, but he never let that stop him. Bocelli made his operatic debut in 1998 in Calgary where he played Rodolfo in "La Boheme"; in 1998 he was named one of 'People's 50 Most Beautiful People' and the following year he was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist.
10. Here are four more 'androgenoids': Abbie Hoffman, Daryl Hannah, Stacy Keach and Sean Young, but how many women are in this mixture?

Answer: 2 women/2 men

Abbot Howard 'Abbie' Hoffman (1936-1989) was a radical American activist and co-founder of the Youth International Party ("Yippies"). He was arrested for conspiracy and inciting a riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
Daryl Hannah is an American actress known for roles in films like "Splash" (1984) and "Blade Runner" (1982), and for dating JFK Jr. for a while.
Sean Young is also an actress and was also in the film "Blade Runner", "No Way Out" (1987) and "Fatal Instinct" (1993).
Stacy Keach is an actor and narrator who played "Mike Hammer" on TV in 1983.
SO... the correct answer is 2 women and 2 men; equality between the sexes!
