Boudicca was a Celtic tribal queen. When King Prasutagus died the Romans sought to ignore Boudicca's rightful role as his successor and to make her tribe, the Iceni, a subject population. When Boudicca rebelled against the Romans she was flogged and her daughters raped.
2. William Caxton was the first English printer.

Answer: True

William learned to print in Cologne in circa 1470. He was born in around 1420 and died in 1491. Caxton himself recorded that he was born in Kent, though this is not certain. At roughly the age of 15, William joined Mercer's Company of London as an apprentice.

In 1469, Caxton became secretary to Margaret of Burgundy. His first known publication (in England) was a single sheet indulgence, created on December 13 1476.
3. James Hargreaves invented the loom.

James was in fact the inventor of the Spinning Jenny and was forced to move due to much violent opposition from co-workers following his invention. The Spinning Jenny was named after James' daughter. James was born in around 1720 and died in 1778. Theres dispute that infact, Thomas Highs invented the Spinning Jenny and (according to one Thomas Leather, a friend of Highs') named it after his daughter Jane. Richard Arkwright, a wigmaker, was the one who took out patents on Highs' design and Hargreaves imrovements. Highs died in 1803.
4. In 1689, John Churchill become the Earl of what?

After helping defeat the Monmouth rebellion in 1685, John Churchill abandoned the cause of King James II, in favour of the cause of William of Orange. It was William who rewarded John with the earldom in 1689. In 1677, John married Sarah Jennings. Blenheim Palace was built for John and Sarah as a reward from George I of England.

Humphry Davy was a chemist, born on December 17 in 1778. He discovered several chemical elements and later invented the miner's safety lamp. He died in 1829. In 1801, Humphry was appointed Assistant Lecturer in Chemistry at the Royal Institution in London, and became a professor there just a year later.
6. At what age did Horatio Nelson join the Royal Navy?

Nelson was born in Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk on the 29 September 1758. Admiral Lord Nelson became a midshipman in 1770, serving under his uncle at the age of twelve and became captain at the young age of 20. He met his wife Frances in the West Indies and married her in 1787.

Mary was born in 1799 and died in 1847. She was a self-taught fossil authority from Lyme Regis in Dorset. Mary also discovered the first plesiosaur remains and found her first major specimen at the age of 11: a whole skeleton of an ichthyosaur.

Kirkpatrick invented the world's first pedal driven bike. He was a Scottish blacksmith, born in 1813 and dying in 1878.

William was a Tory MP who introduced a bill to abolish slavery in the British West Indies, which was eventually passed by a new Whig government in 1807. William was nine 9 years old when his father died and he was sent to live in Wimbledon with relatives. William attended Cambridge University and was elected to Parliament for Hull.
10. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was the first woman to qualify as what in Britain?

Answer: doctor

Elizabeth qualified as a doctor in 1865. Elizabeth was also the first woman mayor in Britain, in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. She was born in 1836 and died in 1917. Elizabeth obtained her medical degree from the Society of Apothecaries.
