Slim Dusty had a career in Australian country music spanning over 50 years. His real name was David Kirkpatrick. Slim was born in 1927, and died in 2003, and had the distinction of being the first Australian to receive a Gold Record.

Answer: Ian Thorpe

Ian Thorpe was born in 1982, and won 5 Olympic gold medals, three silver and a bronze in the course of his career. He retired from competition in 2006.

Dame Joan Sutherland has performed in most major operas and opera houses around the world. She was born in 1926 and lives in retirement in Switzerland.

Ned Kelly was probably the best known of the 19th Century Australian bushrangers. Born in 1855, he was hanged in Melbourne on 11th November 1880 at the age of 25. His last words are reputed to be "such is life".
The others mentioned were Australian Prime Ministers of the twentieth century - a different form of bushranging!

Albert was born in the Northern Territory in 1902, and died in 1959. Prominient Aboriginal activist, the late Charles Perkins said of him: "He was definitely the beginning of a recognition of Aboriginal people by white Australia." His artwork is recognised as having captured the spirit of Australia's outback.

All the characters mentioned are the creations of entertainer Barry Humphries, but Dame Edna is noted for the lilac hair, flamboyant spectacles and gladioli.
