Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A dog sits on a tuckerbox Five miles from Gundagai My name is in this song's first line- So tell me - who am I?

Answer: Mabel

Mabel is the girlfriend of Dave in Steele Rudd's classic comedy "Dad and Dave" stories about Snake Gully. This is just one song about Gundagai which does indeed have a dog on a tuckerbox statue close by.
2. "West Side Story" is my own And Tony was my man He loved me, but what's my name? Please, tell me who I am!

Answer: Maria

Maria is the sister of Bernardo, whose gang is fighting with Tony's. Thus their love affair was not popular. Loosely based on "Romeo and Juliet", "West Side Story" was written by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents and was first performed in 1957.
3. Milly-Molly-Mandy I am called I live in a house with nice white walls I'm ready to help and I love a game But tell me, what's my proper name?

Answer: Millicent Margaret Amanda

Milly-Molly-Mandy was created by Joyce Lankester Brisley in the 1920s. The little girl in the pink-striped dress who lived in the nice white house is still around, too! I've never figured out the "Margaret" bit, since "Peggy" is a more likely dimutive of Margaret. Molly (or Mollie) is usually a dim. of Mary. One of the stories is called "Milly-Molly-Mandy Spends a Penny". Really.
4. I'm told to row a boat ashore When on the River Jordan What's my name? Can you tell me While rivers I'm a'fording?

"Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" is a traditional song that has been recorded often. One well-known adaptation was by Peter, Paul and Mary. It is also well-known as a campfire song.

Answer: Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette was Queen of France, and was beheaded during the French Revolution. When told that the poor had no bread, she allegedly said "Let them eat cake", which has often been quoted to "prove" her callous indifference. Apparently what she really said was not "cake" but "brioche", which was probably the only kind of bread she knew ... she was saying they should be fed!
