Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."

Answer: Buddha

Buddha spent his life teaching disciples about his beliefs and the goal of achieving the state of Nirvana. He is said to have lived eighty years, and died in 483 B.C., possibly of food poisoning. I love Buddha's quotes because they are always filled with meaning.
2. "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched- they must be felt with the heart."

Answer: Helen Keller

A severe fever at 19 months left Helen blind and deaf. Anne Sullivan was her tutor when Helen was six, and Helen began to open up. Above all, she learned to speak. Helen was a lecturer and an activist. She founded and promoted the American Federation for the Blind. Helen Keller is one of the most brilliant leaders of the century, at least in my opinion.
3. "If you want to make beautiful music, you must play the black and the white notes together."

Answer: Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon resigned as US president, being the first president to ever quit the office. He was a lawyer, senator, vice-president, and president. He resigned due to the Watergate scandal, and Gerald Ford took over.
4. "Thinking: The talking of the soul with itself."

Answer: Plato

Plato means 'broad-shouldered'. He was a student of Socrates, a famous Greek philosopher. He founded the Academy in his hometown Athens in 387 B.C. and wrote "The Republic". His most famous student was Aristotle. I love Plato's philosophy, and I especially love this quote.
5. "A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on."

Answer: John F. Kennedy

JFK served in the US Navy during World War II. He married Jacqueline Bouvier and had two children; Caroline and John, Jr. A third child, Patrick, was born on August 7,1963, but died 3 days later. JFK was elected to replace Eisenhower in 1960. John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald (or so the controversial story says). I love John F. Kennedy for his innovation and love for his country.
6. "All the people like us are we, And everyone else is They."

Answer: Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay. He lived his early childhood in India where Indian culture and traditions influenced him. His parents sent him to England for education at 5 and for the next 6 years, he endured beatings and hardship. His first volume of poetry, "Departmental Ditties", was published in India.

In 1907, Kipling won the Nobel Prize for Literature. This quote is one of my favorite quotes about equality; it's one of the most thought-provoking sayings I've ever come across.
7. "Not all who wander are lost."

Answer: J.R.R. Tolkien

J.R.R. Tolkien's name at birth was John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. He wrote "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. J.R.R. was a linguist and a professor of language and literature at Oxford University. He was part of C.S. Lewis's "The Inklings", a group of scholars and writers. J.R.R. Tolkien was a brilliant writer and I will always cherish his books and quotes.
8. "Our flag is red, white and blue, but our nation is a rainbow- red, yellow, brown, black, and white- and we're all precious in God's sight."

Answer: Aristotle

Aristotle spent nearly 20 years at Plato's Academy, first as a student, then as a teacher. After Plato's death, he traveled and educated Alexander the Great, a man who nearly conquered the world. Aristotle began his own school in Athens, known as the Lyceum.

He was the author of "Ethics". Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates are known as the big three in Greek philosophy, and the words they spoke are still spoken today.
10. "A man who won't die for something is not fit to live."

Answer: Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Christian clergyman whose writings shaped the American civil rights movement. King organized a march that drew 200,000 people demanding equal rights for minorities. In 1964, King won the Nobel Peace Prize, being the youngest ever to receive it. He was shot by James Earl Ray while visiting Memphis. Martin Luther King, Jr. is an inspiration to us all( at least to me). He stood up for everyone and loved everyone as well.
