1. "The man who says he can, and the man who says he cannot... are both correct" was said by what great philosopher who lived from 551-479 BC?

Answer: Confucius

Confucius was one of China's and the world's great thinkers, a statesman, philosopher and teacher. Those other philosophers lived 6-7 centuries after Confucius. Confucianism is the foundation of Eastern philosophy and religion, which in turn were vitally influential on Western philosophy.
Confucius considered himself not the inventor per se of the truths he wrote about, but the keeper of them, someone who sought to preserve ancient truths and propriety. He wasn't as concerned with religion really nor metaphysics, as much as he was instructive about moral and political behavior.

And then a smiling Agarn, pleased that he came up with a good idea, would change his expression quickly to consternation and ask, "Who says I'm dumb?" Who played Corporal Randolph Agarn?

Answer: Larry Storch

"F Troop" was a favorite show of my family as best as I can remember. It aired from 1965 to 1967, so I was just a kid, but I remember my parents finding it funny, and that pleases me to think about--that the show gave them some laughs. But Larry Storch was a stand-up comic who also did a lot of voice work for cartoons such as Mr. Whoopee on "Tennessee Tuxedo." For his role as Corporal Agarn, Storch was nominated for a Primetime Emmy award in 1967 for Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Comedy Series.
7. What French writer wrote in his 1951 nonfiction book, "L'Homme revolte" (The Rebel): What is a rebel? A man who says "no".

Answer: Albert Camus

Albert Camus (1913-1960) was French; those other writers were British. Camus' "The Rebel" was essentially a very long essay examining the nature of revolution and rebellion, and the true motivations behind them. He called them "essential dimensions" of being human, a part of our timeless and constant struggle against the condition of our lives whether imposed by nature or regimes.
8. Which U.S. President said, "The most successful politician is he who says what everybody is thinking most often and in the loudest voice." He was such a forceful personality in saying what he wanted that he once gave a famous speech shortly after being shot from a would-be assassin!

Answer: Theodore Roosevelt

If you remembered his famous quote, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far" then you might have made an educated guess that it was Theodore Roosevelt who uttered this similar sentiment. President Roosevelt was indeed once shot in the chest but proceeded to give a speech, opening with "Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot." It was on October 14, 1912, and he was running for re-election when the shot was fired.

He showed the wound to his audience, and told them it would take more that that to stop him. So he continued his speech, finished it, and then allowed his aides to take him to the hospital where doctors decided it was safer to leave the bullet lodged in him, than to operate.
9. What actress described her character this way: "Margo Channing was not a bitch. She was an actress who was getting older and was not too happy about it. And why should she be? Anyone who says that life begins at 40 is full of it. As people get older their bodies begin to decay. They get sick. They forget things. What's good about that?"

Answer: Bette Davis

Bette Davis was describing her iconic Margo Channing from the great film "All About Eve" (1950). The movie was was based on a short story called "The Wisdom of Eve" written by Mary Orr, and was later adapted into a radio play. For the film adaptation, "All About Eve", Joseph L. Mankiewicz, tackled the writing and directing.

The film was nominated for 14 Oscars, winning six of them including Best Picture. The story involves a behind the scenes look at the theatre business in New York, and the back-stabbing and personal dramas that sometimes play larger than the dramas onstage.

The film is known for its acerbic and witty dialogue including Margo Channing's famous line: "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night."
10. Educator and writer Laurence J. Peter said, "The man who says he is willing to meet you halfway is usually a poor judge of distance." Mr. Peter described the concept known as "the Peter Principle" which stated what?

Answer: People rise to their level of incompetence.

Parkinson's Law described the expanding of work in order to fit whatever time at all was allotted to complete a job. Occam's Razor essentially states that "The simplest answer is usually correct" and a lot of you remember that it is Murphy's Law that states that "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong."
The Peter Principle regards the phrase that you've heard: "People rise to their level of incompetence." This basically means people are promoted in the business world based on how well they performed their last job, not how well they might perform their future job. Once people reach a level where they can't perform their job well, they do not get promoted anymore.
As far as his quote "The man who says he is willing to meet you halfway is usually a poor judge of distance" goes, there are many other quotes that dance around the very same concept. You'll find them, such as this from from Orlando A. Battista: "The fellow who says he'll meet you halfway usually thinks he's standing on the dividing line."
