Later, David would be called upon to slay Goliath, setting up a series of events in which he would become king of Israel.
6. Out of the four names below starting with the letter 'D', which one was a nurse for Rebekah? (Genesis 35:8)

Answer: Deborah

Scripture states she was buried under a terbinth tree and it was called Allon Bachuth.

There was, of course, another woman in the Old Testament called Deborah. But those details appear in another question and answer.
7. What was the name of Samson's Philistine lover who betrayed him? (Judges 16:4)

Answer: Delilah

When it comes to betrayal in the Old Testament, Delilah is in a league of her own. Samson was a judge of Israel who had super-human strength because of his long hair, Scripture states. Judges 16 tells of Delilah, Samson's Philistine lover, betraying him and receiving a massive amount of silver from his adversaries.

While he was sleeping, Delilah called upon an unnamed man who cut Samson's hair, resulting in the loss of his super strength. Samson 16:21 tells of Samson having his eyes gouged out before being put in bronze fetters and made a grinder in a Philistine prison.
8. According to Scripture, who accurately interpreted a dream for Babylonian king Belshazzar?

Answer: Daniel

Daniel is the correct answer. According to the fifth chapter of Daniel, the fingers on a disembodied hand started writing a message on the wall after King Belshazzar hosted a lavish banquet in which he, his wives and his concubines drank from goblets taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem. Scripture states the king's gathering drank the wine from the sacred goblets and "praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone." When the king brought in the prophet Daniel to interpret the writing on the wall, no punches were pulled. Daniel told the king "God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end".

The fifth chapter of Daniel concludes with an account of Belshazzar's death.
9. According to Daniel 5:30, who replaced Belshazzar as king?

Answer: Darius the Mede

Darius the Mede replaced Belshazzar as king, as per Daniel 5:30 with the verse stating he was 62 years old. Darius the Mede is mentioned in only Daniel and is not to be confused with other kings in the Old Testament with the name Darius. Belshazzar was replaced as king after he was slain. According to Daniel 5, his downfall came about when saw the disembodied figures of a hand write a message on a wall at a gala banquet he was hosting.
10. What king continued the policy of Cyrus enabling the Israelites to return to Jerusalem to build a temple and a wall around the city?

Answer: Darius

Darius is the correct answer. Haggai 1:1 and Zechariah 1:1 tell of the Israelites resuming work on the temple and completing it in the sixth year of his reign, as per Ezra 6:15. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Darius provided significant help to the Israelites in rebuilding the temple.
11. According to Numbers 16:1, who staged a rebellion against Moses and ended up with the earth opening up around him and swallowing him?

Answer: Dathan

According to Numbers 16, Dathan and his brother Abirham, along with Korah and On, staged a rebellion against Moses while the Israelites were wandering in the wildnerness, on their way to Canaan.

They paid with their lives for their defiance. Scripture tells of the earth opening up and swallowing the protesters in a case of divine retribution.

Numbers 16:41-50 also tells of other complainers and protesters dying. According to Verse 49, 14,700 people were killed by divine retribution.
12. Out of the four names below starting with the letter 'D', which one was one of the ten sons of Haman who was hanged along with his father? (Esther 9:7)

Answer: Dalphon

According to Scripture, Dalphon was hanged along with his nine brothers and their father Haman, as per Esther 9:7-14. The Book of Esther states Haman had a diabolical plan to kill all the Jews in the massive Persian empire of King Ahasueres. (In the NIV, the king is known as Xerxes.) However, Haman was prevented from carrying out his plans due to the intervention of Queen Esther and her cousin Mordecai.
13. According to 2 Chronicles 20:37, who was the father of Eliezer, a prophet of God? (The name appears slightly different in the NIV)

Answer: Dodavah

Dodavah is the correct answer, but little is known about him as he is mentioned in only passing reference. (In the NIV, Dodavah's name appears as Dodavahu.)

2 Chronicles 20:37 tells of Dodavah's son Eliezer issuing a prophecy against Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. In his prophecy, Eliezer denounces Jehoshaphat for forming an alliance with Ahaziah, king of Israel. Scripture tells of Jehoshaphat constructing a fleet of ships to travel to Tarshish with the LORD wrecking the ships, just as Eliezer had prophesied.
14. Out of the four names below starting with the letter 'D', which one was the father of Eliasaph, leader of the Tribe of Dan? (Numbers 7:42)

Answer: Deuel

Deuel is identified as the father of Eliasaph, leader of the Tribe of Dan, in Numbers 1:14; 7:42,47 and 10:20. However, in Numbers 2:14 of the NKJV, his name appears as Reuel. Little is known about Deuel as he is mentioned in passing reference.
15. According to Hosea 1:3, who was the mother of Gomer, the wife of Hosea, a prophet of God?

Answer: Diblaim

Diblaim is the correct answer, but little is known about her as she is mentioned in passing reference. She appears to have been a single parent as no mention is made of her husband in Scripture. According to Hosea 1:2-3, Gomer was a harlot.

There's a suggestion in Scripture Diblaim was a harlot as well. Scripture tells of God commanding Hosea to take "a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry for the land has committed great harlotry."

According to Wikipedia, Diblaim means "cakes of pressed figs" while Gomer means "doubled cakes".
16. According to Scripture, Shelomith's unnamed son was stoned to death by the Israelites for blasphemy. Who was Shelomith's father, as per Leviticus 24:11?

Answer: Dibri

Dibri is the correct answer, but not much is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. According to Leviticus 24:11, Dibri was of the tribe of Dan. Scripture states Shelomith's unnamed son was stoned by "all the congregation" for blasphemy.
17. According to Scripture, what was the name of the king of Eglon who was killed by Joshua? (Joshua 10:3)

Answer: Debir

Debir, the king of Eglon, was killed by Joshua when the Israelites moved into Canaan, known in Scripture as the Promised Land.

Joshua 10 tells of the Israelites soundly defeating their adversaries, with Debir and four other kings fleeing and taking refuge in a cave. When Joshua learned the kings had taken refuge in a cave, he ordered large stones to be placed at the mouth, trapping the kings inside. Later, Joshua killed the five kings and hanged their bodies from trees, as per Joshua 10:26.

The incident took place after Joshua called upon the LORD, and the sun and moon stood still over Gibeon, enabling the Israelites to come out victorious in battle. (Joshua 10:1-15)
18. Out of the four names below starting with the letter 'D', which one was converted to Christianity in Athens by Paul? (Acts 17:34)

Answer: Dionysius

According to Acts 17:34, Dionysius became a believer in a resurrected Jesus Christ when Paul gave a passionate message in Athens. Not much is known about Dionysius, as the one verse in which he appears simply states he was an Areopagite. The same verse tells of the conversion of a woman named Damaris and "others".

After preaching in Athens, Paul departed to Corinth, as per Acts 18:1.
19. What member of the early church, according to 3 John 1:9, loved to have "preeminence" and would not receive John?

Answer: Diotrephes

Diotrephes is the correct answer. In 3 John 1:9, he is described as a man who loved to have "preeminence" at his church and refused to receive the writer of the epistle. The verse also states John had written a letter to the church attended by Diotrephes, but the letter received no action.

Notes in the NKJV Study Bible suggest Diotrephes was asserting control over the church and wanted nothing to do with John. It is not stated in the epistle where Diotrephes was based, but it is commonly believed he was somewhere in Asia Minor, now known as Turkey.

Tradition holds the writer of 3 John was one of the Twelve Disciples.
20. In 2 Timothy 4:10, Paul writes about a worker in the early church who forsook him "having loved this present world" and departed for Thessalonica. What was the name of the church worker who abandoned Paul?

Answer: Demas

Paul writes in 2 Timothy 4:10 Demas had forsaken him, "having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica." The apostle to the Gentiles goes on to write Crescens had gone to Galatia and Titus to Dalmatia and "only Luke is with me."

In Colossians 4:14 and Philemon 1:24, Paul tells recipients of his letters that Demas extends his greetings. However, it appears the horrific hardships workers in the early church had to endure were too much for Demas and he abandoned Paul.

2 Timothy is believed to have been written just before Paul was executed.
21. Who was the silversmith at Ephesus who helped spark a riot against Paul and other workers in the early church? (Acts 19:21-41)

Answer: Demetrius

Demetrius, a silversmith, made shrines of Diana and he became livid when his sales started to plummet as a result of Paul converting the citizens of Ephesus. Acts 19 tells of Demetrius stirring up a large crowd, with the city becoming filled with confusion. Scripture goes on to tell of the crowd seizing Gaius and Aristarchus, two of Paul's co-workers from Macedonia. A couple hours later, the city clerk of Ephesus was able to convince the rioters such matters should be decided by "a lawful assembly", with Gaius and Aristarchus being released.

Rather than state Demetrius made silver shrines of Diana, the NIV states he made shrines of Artemis.
22. What was the name of the woman in Athens who became a believer in a resurrected Jesus Christ, as per Acts 17:34?

Answer: Damaris

According to Acts 17:34, Damaris converted to Christianity after hearing Paul preach in Athens. Little is known about Damaris, as she is mentioned in passing reference. In addition to her conversion, Scripture states "Dionysius the Areopagite" as well as "others" became believers.
23. A woman known as Tabitha was raised from the dead by Peter, as per Acts 9:36-43. What other name was Tabitha known by?

Answer: Dorcas

Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, is the correct answer. According to Scripture, she was well known for her good works and deeds in Joppa, and when she died there was immense grief. However, the grief would turn to astonishment and joy when Peter raised her from the dead, Scripture states. According to Acts 9:40, Peter kneeled beside her body and prayed and then exclaimed, "Tabitha arise!" and she did just that.

This is the first account in the New Testament of someone rather than Jesus raising a person from the dead. Acts 20:7-12 also tells of Paul raising Eutychus from the dead.
24. Out of the four names below starting with the letter 'D', which one was the wife of Felix? (Acts 24:24)

Answer: Drusilla

Drusilla, a Jewish woman, was married to Felix, the Roman procurator of Judea. Scripture tells of Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, appearing on trial before Felix.

Although Drusilla is mentioned in only passing reference in the Bible, history records she was the daughter of Herod Agrippa I and the sister of Herod Agrippa II, Berenice and Mariamne. She lost her life in AD 79 when Mount Vesuvius erupted.
25. Going by John 21:2 in the NIV Bible, what name was the disciple Thomas also known as? (The KJV and the NKJV use a different alternate name.)

Answer: Didymus

Didymus is the correct answer. Notes in the NIV Study Bible state Didymus translates as 'Twin'. Rather than use the name Didymus, the KJV and the NKJV refers to the disciple's alternate name as Twin.

Thomas, of course, is known as the doubting disciple, as he refused to believe reports about Christ's resurrection, insisting he would not believe until he could put his finger in the wounds of Christ's hands. John 20:19-29 tells of Christ appearing before Thomas and inviting him to examine His wounds. After putting his finger in the wounds of His hands and his hand into the wound in His side, Thomas proclaimed, "My Lord and my God."
