Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Mark 3:14, who ordained the twelve disciples?

Answer: Jesus Christ

Peter was himself one of the twelve disciples; John the Baptist had baptized Jesus; and the Holy Ghost had not been manifested yet, because Christ was still on the earth.

2. Cain was the first born person named in the Bible, Abel was the second, who was the third?

Answer: Enoch

Genesis four tells the story of Cain and Abel and then gives account of Cain's first child Enoch which Cain named a city after and Enoch's descendants to Lamech starting with Irad, Enoch's son. It then tells us of Seth the third son of Adam and Eve. In Genesis five it gives us an account of Adam's descendants starting with Seth and his son Enosh and goes all the way to Noah.

5. Of the following four kings mentioned in the book of Daniel, which one was tricked into having Daniel thrown into the lions' den?

Answer: Darius

Nebuchadnezzar was the king who had Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego thrown into the fiery furnace (Daniel 3). Belshazzar is the next king mentioned, and he was the one who saw the writing on the wall during a feast (Daniel 5). That night, the Babylonian kingdom was overthrown and Darius the Mede became king (Daniel 5:31). The last king mentioned, Cyrus the Persian, has a passing reference in Daniel 6:28 where it is said that Daniel prospered in his reign.

6. In Romans 16:13 Paul sends greetings to Rufus. Which of Rufus' relatives does he also wish to greet?

Answer: His Mother

This lady, known only as "Rufus' mother", must have been a very special person indeed. Paul is looked upon as one of the greatest of the apostles: he preached and taught fearlessly and in tremendous depth, established churches, wrote many letters (which form about half of the New Testament) and suffered all kinds of persecution and hardships. Yet it would seem that this great man still needed one of the most basic things of life: the love and care of a mother.

I can just imagine Rufus' mother taking Paul into her home and fussing over him, feeding him up, mending his clothes and offering motherly advice and rebukes. It obviously meant a great deal to Paul to have someone like her in his life as he mentions her in this chapter of greetings.

7. The New testament Book of Jude tells of a dispute between the devil and an archangel. What was the name of the Archangel?

Answer: Michael

"Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord Rebuke you." Jude 1:9 (NKJV)

Jude was perhaps pointing out to his readers that in correcting others judgement should be left to God.

8. Christians believe that Jesus currently sits at the right hand of the Father. In which Old Testament book of the "minor" prophets do we find Satan standing at the right hand of Jesus, opposing or resisting Him?

Answer: Zechariah

Zechariah chapter 3 gives us a visual of Joshua, the high priest standing before the Lord. Joshua Yeshua Jeshua and Jesus are all names from the same root source. The letters J and Y are interchangeable in Hebrew, as are O and E.

9. Of the following four seas connected with Israel, on which one did King Solomon build his fleet of ships?

Answer: The Red Sea

1 Kings 9:26 tells us that the fleet was built at a place called Ezion Geber, which is near the modern Israeli holiday resort of Eilat on a part of the Red Sea called the Gulf of Aqaba.

10. When Jesus was tempted he quoted the Old Testament three times. The first of which was when the devil told him to turn a stone into bread. He replied with "It is written: Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." which old testament book does this quote come from?

Answer: Deuteronomy

All three of the quotes that Jesus uses are from the book Deuteronomy. When Moses says this he's talking to the Israelites about the manna that they ate in the desert. The quote "do not put the LORD your God to the test" is said by Moses when he was talking to them about when they questioned the LORD at Massah. And the quote "worship the LORD and serve him only" is also said by Moses when he's telling them to love the LORD and not forget him as their fathers did.
