Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone."

Answer: Psalm 118:22

The verse is from Psalm 118:22, with Christians believing the verse is Messianic prophecy.

Jesus makes mention of being the chief cornerstone in Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10 and Luke 20:17. On top of this, New Testament verses such as Acts 4:11 and 1 Peter 2:7 make reference to the stone which the builders rejected becoming the chief cornerstone.
2. "All my close friends abhor me, and those whom I love have turned against me."

Answer: Job 19:19

The statement, "All my close friends abhor me, and those whom I love have turned against me" was made by Job in Job 19:19. Job made the statement in a lengthy response to accusations made by Bildad, one of three men who visited Job after he suffered through the deaths of his ten children and the loss of his immense wealth. On top of this, Job ended in deplorable health.

All of Chapter 19 of Job is devoted to Job's response to Bildad.
3. "All King Solomon's drinking vessels were gold... Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon."

Answer: 1 Kings 10:21

The verse in question is from 1 Kings 10:21 and is part of a passage telling of King Solomon's immense wealth. Chapter 10 also tells of the Queen of Sheba visiting Solomon with a caravan of camels bearing "very much gold and precious stones".

For the record, 1 Kings 10:21 reads this way in its entirety in the NKJV: "All King Solomon's drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon."

Due to space limitations with match format quizzes, the verse is presented in an edited version.
4. "Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors."

Answer: Genesis 37:3

Genesis 37:3 is the correct answer. The verse tells of Jacob, also known as Israel, making a tunic of "many colors" for his son Joseph. Jacob was the father of eleven other sons, who became jealous when Joseph was given the special tunic.

In fact, their jealousy festered to such a point they ended up selling Joseph into slavery and setting things up so Jacob would become convinced his son had been killed by a wild beast.

Genesis 37:31-32 tells of the brothers taking Joseph's tunic, killing a young goat and dipping the tunic in the blood. They then presented the tunic to Jacob who became convinced Joseph had been killed.
5. "Better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, than in a house shared with a contentious woman."

Answer: Proverbs 21:9

The Book of Proverbs is packed full of a number of witty sayings with some of them being borderline comical. Proverbs 21:9 is definitely such a verse.

Incidentally, Proverbs 25:24, with the exception of two words at the beginning, reads the same in the NKJV: "It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, than in a house shared with a contentious woman."

Meanwhile, Proverbs 21:19 in the NKJV states, "Better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and angry woman."
6. "And Achan answered Joshua and said, 'Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and this is what I have done:"

Answer: Joshua 7:20

The verse is from Joshua 7:20. It's part of a passage in which the Israelites suffered a stinging military defeat at Ai due to the fact Achan had defied God's orders and stole items in the conquest of Jericho. Later, Achan would confess he had "sinned against the LORD God of Israel". He was then taken outside the camp and stoned to death.

For further details, see Joshua 7:1-26.
7. "And he said to them, 'Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that this great tempest is because of me.'"

Answer: Jonah 1:12

The person who told others to "pick me up and throw me into the sea" was Jonah, as per Jonah 1:12. According to Scripture, Jonah defied divine instructions to go to Nineveh to preach a message of repentance and instead attempted to run from God by boarding a ship for Tarshish. Before long, the ship became engulfed in a severe storm and Jonah was convinced he was the reason for the tempest. As a result, he urged others on the ship to throw him overboard.

Sure enough, Jonah got his wish and he was tossed into the sea. However, miraculously, he was swallowed by a gigantic fish and survived in its stomach for three days before being regurgitated on to dry land. Scripture goes on to tell of Jonah travelling to Nineveh and being highly successful in preaching his message of repentance.
8. "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."

Answer: Isaiah 53:5

The verse is from Isaiah 53:5 and Christians believe it is a prophetic verse pertaining to the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, many Christians believe the entire 53rd chapter of Isaiah is prophecy pertaining to the Messiah with Jesus being the fulfillment of that prophecy.

Isaiah 53:6 goes on to state, "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."
9. "Then the LORD said to Gideon, 'By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand.'"

Answer: Judges 7:7

Judges 7:7 is the correct answer. The verse is part of a passage in which God informs Gideon all he will need is three hundred soldiers to defeat a vast army of the Midianites. This even though Gideon was prepared to lead no less than thirty two thousand soldiers into battle against the Midianites.

Sure enough, Gideon and his valiant three hundred soldiers would score a spectacular military victory for the Israelites.

For further details, see Judges 7:1-25.
10. "And after Boaz had eaten and drunk... he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down."

Answer: Ruth 3:7

The verse is from Ruth 3:7. The name Boaz is a key clue with his name appearing no less than eighteen times in the Book of Ruth, using the NKJV. The book tells of a romance between Boaz, a wealthy Jewish landowner, and Ruth, a poor Moabite widow.

For the record, Ruth 3:7 reads this way in its entirety in the NKJV: "And after Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was cheerful, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down."

Due to space limitations with match format quizzes, the verse is presented in an edited version.
