Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Here are four statements about Paul. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He raised Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, from the dead.

Paul was indeed the apostle to the Gentiles who worked as a tent maker (Acts 18:3) and was from Tarsus (Acts 21:39). However, he had no part in raising Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, from the dead. According to Acts 9:36-43, she was raised from the dead by Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples.

However, according to Acts 20:7-12, Paul raised Eutychus from the dead. Eutychus was a young man who plunged to his death after he fell asleep in a third-story window during a lengthy message by Paul.
2. Here are four statements about Peter. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was involved in a shipwreck.

According to John 1:44, Peter was from Bethsaida and was the brother of Andrew. In Matthew 4:18, both are described as fishermen. According to Christiananswers.net, Bethsaida was a town in Galilee, on the west side of the Sea of Galilee, in the land of Gennesarets. The same Web site reports Bethsaida was near Capernaum.

And yes, Peter denied Christ prior to the crucifixion, as per Matthew 26:69-75. However, there is no report about him being involved in a shipwreck. The only account of a shipwreck in the New Testament involved Paul, as per Acts 27.
3. Here are four statements about Matthew. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was married as Scripture states his mother-in-law was ill.

There is no mention in Scripture about Matthew ever being married. In fact, Peter was the only one of the original twelve disciples who is known to have been married. According to Matthew 8:14-15, Peter's mother-in-law was ill with fever and Jesus healed her.

All the other statements about Matthew are true. He was the son of Alphaeus and a tax collector (Matthew 10:3 and Mark 2:14). According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, it is believed Matthew came from Capernaum. Christian tradition holds he wrote the first Gospel of the New Testament.
4. Here are four statements about Thomas. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He was on Mount Transfiguration when Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus.

Thomas was not on Mount Transfiguration when Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus. According to Scripture, Peter, John and James were with Jesus when the transfiguration took place, as per Matthew 17:1-13.

In the 20th chapter of John, he stubbornly refused to believe reports about Christ's resurrection. However, his life was turned upside-down and inside-out when Christ appeared to him after the resurrection, as per John 20:26:29.

After putting his fingers in the wounds of Christ's hands and his hand in the wound on His side, Thomas finally realized he had irrefutable proof Jesus had risen from the dead. In John 20:28, Thomas made the great declaration: "My Lord and my God." As one country pastor once stated in a message I heard a number of years ago, the statement by Thomas ranks as five of the most important spoken words in the entire Bible.

According to John 11:16, Thomas was called "the twin" indicating he had a twin brother or twin sister.
5. Here are four statements about Mary Magdalene. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: She helped Jesus turn the water into wine.

There is no account in Scripture about Mary Magdalene assisting Jesus in any of the many miracles He performed.

It is known, however, she had seven demons driven out of her and she was the first person to see Christ after the resurrection (Mark 16:19). Meanwhile theologians believe Mary was given the name because she came from Magdala. In the entire Bible, Magdala is mentioned in only Matthew 15:39 in the KJV and the NKJV. (In the NIV, the place is called Magadan.) In a parallel passage in Mark 8:10, Magdala/Magadan is called Dalmanutha in the KJV, the NKJV and the NIV.)
6. Here are four statements about Priscilla. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: She was a dealer in purple cloth.

Priscilla was a dynamic woman in the early church who did many things, but there is no account of her being a dealer in purple cloth.

According to Acts 18:24-26, Priscilla and her husband Aquila both tutored Apollos, a worker in the early church. According to Acts 18:3, Aquila was a tent maker.

No specific details are given, but Paul states in Romans 16:3 that Priscilla and Aquila risked their lives for him. The statement is made as a passing reference in the chapter which contains a long list of names in Paul's personal greetings section of the book.
7. Here are four statements about Lydia. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: Her husband chose not to convert to Christianity.

There is no mention of Lydia's husband in Scripture at all. However, if she was married, or if her husband was alive at the time of her conversion, it is assumed he would have become a Christian because Acts 16:15 states her "entire household" was baptized by Paul.

According to Acts 16:14, she was a dealer in purple cloth and she was originally from Thyatira. Paul and Silas stayed at her house after they were jailed in Philippi, as per Acts 16:40.
8. Here are four statements about Timothy. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: His grandmother was Euodias.

According to 2 Timothy 1:5, Timothy's grandmother was Lois, not Euodias. He was a young worker in the early church who was originally from Lyrsta, as per Acts 16:1. Lystra was a city in present-day Turkey. According to Wikipedia, the community is now known as Klistra and is about 20 miles south of the city of Konya.

According to Hebrews 13:23, Timothy had been "set free," meaning he had been released from prison after preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. No further details are given about Timothy's incarceration.
9. Here are four statements about Bartimaeus. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: Jesus cured his blindness by putting clay on his eyes.

There is no mention in Scripture about Jesus putting clay on Bartimaeus' eyes to cure him of blindness. According to Mark 10:52, Bartimaeus regained his sight "immediately" after briefly talking with Jesus.

Mark 10:46 states Bartimaeus was a blind beggar who Jesus met at Jericho. Bartimaeus shouted the words "Son of David, have mercy on me" to get Christ's attention as He passed by. 'Son of David' is a Messianic title for Jesus and many theologians link it to 2 Samuel 7:14-15.
10. Here are four statements about Zaccheaus. Which one is incorrect?

Answer: He had more than one wife.

There is no account in Scripture about Zacchaeus having a wife, let alone being in a polygamous relationship. Although it is assumed Zacchaeus was married, the incorrect answer has to be 'he had more than one wife'. According to Luke 19:1-10, we do know he was the chief tax collector of Jericho who was so short he had to climb a sycamore tree to get a better look at Jesus while He was passing through.

To Zacchaeus' amazement, Jesus greeted Him with these words: "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house."
