Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start with an easy one. Find the match for Adam. (Genesis 3:20)

Answer: Eve

Adam and Eve were created by God, becoming the first man and the first woman, according to Scripture. They had three named children -- Cain, Abel and Seth -- as well as a number of other children who are not named. According to Genesis 3:20, Adam named his wife Eve "because she was the mother of all living."
2. Find the match for Lamech. (Genesis 4:19)

Answer: Adah and Zillah

Lamech was the first polygamist in the Bible, being married to Adah and Zillah, as per Genesis 4:19.

Scripture goes on to state Adah bore Jabal, "the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock", and Jubal, "the father of all those who play the harp and flute."

Scripture also states Zillah bore Tubal-Cain, "an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron" as well as a daughter Naamah.
3. Find the match for Abram, or Abraham. (Genesis 11:29)

Answer: Sarai, or Sarah

Abram, who later became known as Abraham, was married to Sarai, who later became known as Sarah. They became the parents of Isaac, even though they were both of an advanced age.

According to Genesis 21:4, Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born while Genesis 17:7 states Sarah was ninety.
4. Find the match for Isaac. (Genesis 24:67)

Answer: Rebekah

Going by Scripture, Isaac had only one wife, Rebekah. There is no documentation of a relationship with another woman. And this at a time when polygamy was common.

Meanwhile, Isaac's father Abraham was married to Sarah (Genesis 11:29) and fathered a child with Hagar, Sarah's handmaiden. (Genesis 16:3) Later in life he married Keturah, presumably after the death of Sarah and they had six sons. (Genesis 25:1)

Isaac's first son Esau had a number of wives, as per the information in the answer section for Question No. 6.

Isaac's second son Jacob had two wives and also fathered children by their two handmaidens -- Bilhah and Zilpah -- as per Genesis 23:35-36. But we'll spare the details about the names of the two wives as Question No. 5 is about Jacob.
5. Find the match for Jacob. (Genesis 29:18-30)

Answer: Leah and Rachel

Jacob was married to two sisters, Leah and Rachel. This even though Jacob was apparently interested in marrying only Rachel and as a result he agreed to work seven years to win her hand from Laban, her father. To Jacob's amazement, his father-in-law Laban pulled a fast one on Jacob's wedding night and arranged for Leah to sleep with him rather than Rachel. Laban explained he was simply honouring the custom of having the older daughter married first. Later, Jacob agreed to work an additional seven years to win Rachel's hand.
6. Find the match for Esau. (Genesis 26:34)

Answer: Judith

According to Scripture, Esau had a number of different wives, including one named Judith.

Genesis 26:34, in the NKJV, states: "When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite."

However, other verses tell of Esau being married to other women.

Genesis 28:9 states, "Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth."

And Genesis 36:2-3 states, "Esau took his wives from the Canaanites: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite, and Basemath, Ishmael's daughter, the sister of Nebaioth."
7. Find the match for Onan. (Genesis 38:6-8)

Answer: Tamar

Onan, the son of Judah, was the second husband of Tamar, according to Genesis 38:6-10. Tamar's first husband was Er, Onan's older brother.

The passage states the two men were both struck dead by the LORD because of wickedness. Later, Judah would have impregnate his daughter-in-law Tamar and she would give birth to Perez and Zerah, the second set of twins in Scripture.

The names Judah, Tamar, Perez and Zerah all appear in the genealogy of Christ, as per Matthew 1:3.
8. Find the match for Judah. (Genesis 38:2)

Answer: Daughter of Shua

Judah's wife was the daughter of Shua, a Canaanite. However, no name is given for the woman. According to Scripture, they had three sons -- Er, Onan and Chezib.

Genesis 38:2-5 in the NKJV states: "And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua, and he married her and went in to her. So she conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Er. She conceived again and bore a son, and she called his name Onan. And she conceived yet again and bore a son, and called his name Shelah. He was at Chezib when she bore him."

Scripture goes on to state that following the death of his wife, Judah impregnated his daughter-in-law Tamar.
9. Find the match for Lot. (Genesis 19:26)

Answer: No name is given

No name is given for Lot's wife, but we know he was married because Scripture says she was turned into a pillar of salt when she defied divine instructions and looked back on the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Details about his wife being turned into a pillar of salt can be found in Genesis 19. The same chapter reports Lot and his two unnamed daughters successfully escaped the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
10. Find the match for Joseph. (Genesis 41:45)

Answer: Asenath

According to Genesis 41:45, Asenath was the daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, and she was given to Joseph as his wife by the Pharaoh. The same verse stated the Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphnath-Paaneah. And he gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. No one knows for certain, but is is generally believed Zaphnath-Paaneah means "the one who reveals mysteries."

Genesis 46:20 states Joseph and Asenath were the parents of two sons -- Manasseh and Ephraim.
