Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Paul regarding shipwrecks. (2 Corinthians 11:25)

Answer: 3

According to Scripture, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, was shipwrecked on three different occasions. In 2 Corinthians 11:24-25, the apostle to the Gentile provides details about his suffering while preaching the news of a resurrected Jesus Christ. In addition to being whipped, beaten with rods and stoned, Paul states he was shipwrecked three times.

However, only one of the shipwrecks is documented in Scripture. Acts 27 and 28 tell of Paul and his entourage being shipwrecked off the coast of Malta. The shipwreck is believed to be the third one Paul endured, as shortly afterwards he traveled to Rome and was imprisoned before being executed.
2. Find the match for John when it comes to the traditional belief about the number of books he wrote in the New Testament.

Answer: 5

Tradition has it John wrote five books in the New Testament. They are the Gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John and Revelation.

Some modern theologians, however, dispute the claim John wrote five books. For example, some believe the book of Revelation was written by a man called John who has no connection with the Gospel of John.

Personally, I am on the side of tradition and believe John wrote all five of the books.
3. Find the match for the number of brothers of Jesus, as per Matthew 13:55-56.

Answer: 4

According to Matthew 13:55, Jesus had four brothers -- James, Joses, Simon and Judas.

Meanwhile, it must be stressed others, including the Roman Catholic Church, interpret the passage about Christ's brothers and sisters differently.

They point out the word 'adelphos' does not necessarily mean 'brother' as we use the word in English, but rather something closer to 'brethren' or even 'comrade'. The word adelphos can refer to a blood sibling, or to a cousin or nephew, or even more broadly to one who is united in a cause.
4. Find the match for the number of times the word 'faith' appears in the 11th chapter of Hebrews, as per the NKJV.

Answer: 24

The 11th chapter of Hebrews is all about faith, with the word being used over and over again. Using the NKJV, the word 'faith' can be found twenty-four times in the chapter. (In the NIV, the count is twenty-seven.) The sixth verse is a classic: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." The chapter also lists a variety of people, from Rahab the prostitute to King David, who pleased God with their faith. On top of the word 'faith' appearing twenty-four times, the word 'faithful' is used once in the chapter.
5. Find the match for the number of years a woman suffered from a bleeding problem before secretly touching Jesus and being miraculously healed. (Matthew 9:20-23)

Answer: 12

No name is given for the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' gown and was cured of bleeding after suffering from the condition for twelve years, according to the fifth chapter of Mark. No further details are given in Scripture as to the type of bleeding she was suffering from.

The Bible isn't precise, but it's abundantly apparent the woman had seen a number of doctors. Mark 5:26 states she had spent all her money on "many" doctors, but the condition continued to worsen, instead of improve.

According to Mark 5:29, the woman was immediately healed after she touched the hem of Jesus' gown.
6. Find the match for the number of lepers who returned out of ten healed to thank Jesus. (Luke 17:1-11)

Answer: 1

Only one leper out of ten returned to thank Jesus after being healed, as per Luke 17:1-11. After encountering the lepers on the border between Galilee and Samaria, Jesus told them to present themselves to the priests. After the lepers departed to see the priests, Scripture states they were healed.

According to Scripture, the lone leper who returned to thank Jesus was a Samaritan.
7. Find the match for the number of believers in the extremely early days of the church, as per Acts 1:15.

Answer: About 120

Acts 1:15 tells of Peter standing up in the midst of the disciples at a meeting held to find a replacement for Judas Iscariot who had committed suicide after betraying Jesus. According to the verse, there were about one hundred and twenty people in attendance.

The church was indeed small at this point in time, but it would grow exponentially over the years, largely because of the disciples going to the ends of the known world preaching a resurrected Christ.
8. Find the match for the number of times the word 'love' appears in the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians, as per the NKJV and NIV.

Answer: 9

The 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians is exquisitely written, with the word 'love' appearing nine times in both the NKJV and NIV. There can be no mistaking the stock Paul the writer of the letter, puts on love. (In the KJV, the word 'charity' is used rather than love.)

The passage is commonly read at weddings.
9. Find the match as to the number of churches John says his message is addressed to, as per Revelation 1:4.

Answer: 7

In Revelation 1:4, John states the message he is delivering is addressed to seven churches in what is modern day Turkey. The seven churches are named in Verse 11: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.

The best way to sum up the book of Revelation, I believe, is to liken it to the tale of two cities. While the people of Babylon face a horrific future, the inhabitants of the New Jerusalem will enjoy life in paradise.
10. Find the match for the number of days and nights Jesus fasted in the wilderness. (Matthew 4:1-11)

Answer: 40

Scripture states Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. According to Matthew 4:2, Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights with the following verses telling of Satan trying to tempt Jesus, but with no success. The number forty is found multiple times in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
