Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of men Paul baptized in Ephesus who had previously been baptized by John the Baptist.

Answer: 12

Twelve is the correct number. Acts 19:1-7 tells of Paul baptizing twelve men in Ephesus who had been previously baptized by John the Baptist. In the passage, the men told Paul they were not aware of the Holy Spirit, with Paul responding to them they needed to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Scripture goes on to tell of the men being baptized by Paul.
2. Find the match for the weight in pounds of the giant hailstones John saw in a vision lashing the world, as per Revelation 16:21 in the NIV. (The KJV and the NKJV use a different weight unit.)

Answer: 100

According to Revelation 16:21 in the NIV, the giant hailstones John saw lashing the world were one hundred pounds each. (The KJV, NKJV as well as a number of other versions state the hailstones weighed a talent.)

Revelation 16:21, in the NIV Bible states: "From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about a hundred pounds, fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible."

Seven different plagues being unleashed against the earth are outlined in the sixteenth chapter of Revelation with the plague of the hailstones being the final one stated in the chapter.
3. Find the match for the number of spearmen assigned to guard Paul when he was being transferred to Caesarea to appear before Felix. (Acts 23:23)

Answer: 200

After forty men vowed not to eat or drink until they killed Paul, the authorities took no chances when they transported the apostle to the Gentiles to appear before Governor Felix. With the forty men waiting in ambush to kill Paul, Scripture states no less than two hundred spearmen, two hundred soldiers and seventy horsemen were assigned to protect the evangelist as he made his way from Jerusalem to Caesarea to meet with Felix.

No details are given in Scripture if there were any incidents as Paul made his way protected by the spearmen, soldiers and horsemen. However, it is abundantly apparent Paul arrived safely as Scripture goes on to tell of his appearance before Felix.

For details, see Acts 23:11-24 as well as 24:1-27.
4. Find the match for the number of people who followed the false prophet Theudas. (Acts 5:36)

Answer: 400

Theudas is a little known false prophet who is mentioned in passing reference in Acts 5:36. According to the verse, Theudas had four hundred followers but after he was killed his movement "came to nothing".

Using Theudas as an example, Gamaliel, a Pharisee, suggested to his brethren they should leave Christians alone and let them preach the message of salvation through Christ. Verses 38-39 quote Gamaliel as saying: "...for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it -- lest you even be found to fight against God."

Gamiliel's advice was followed by the Pharisees and Christianity quickly spread as the apostles found it much easier to preach the Gospel message.
5. Find the match for the number of the Twelve Disciples KNOWN to be fishermen. (Matthew 4:18-22)

Answer: 4

Four of the Original Twelve Disciples were fishermen. They were Peter, Andrew, James and John were. Yes, it's possible other disciples were also fishermen. In fact, some scholars believe the majority of the disciples were fishermen. However, going strictly by Scripture, the only ones identified as fishermen were Peter, Andrew, James and John.

Peter and Andrew were brothers and James and John were brothers. They fished on the Sea of Galilee.

Matthew 4:18-22 tells of the four leaving their jobs as fishermen to follow Jesus. The passage in the NKJV states: "And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.' They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him."
6. Find the match for the number of days Paul spent with Peter, as per Galatians 1:18.

Answer: 15

According to Scripture, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, spent fifteen days with Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples. The meeting between the two giants in the Christian faith took place after some time after Paul's dramatic conversion to Christianity. According to Galatians 1:17-18, Paul spent some time in sometime in Arabia before returning to Damascus. Then after three years in Damascus, he travelled to Jerusalem where he spent fifteen days with Peter.

In Verse 19, Paul states in the NKJV that he saw none of the other apostles, apart from James, the Lord's brother.

Paul writes about his notorious past and the fifteen days he spent with Peter in Galatians 1:11-24.
7. Find the match for the number of years an unnamed man was a paralytic before being healed by Jesus. (John 5:5)

Answer: 38

An unnamed man had been a paralytic for thirty-eight years when Jesus miraculously healed him, according to John 5:5.

The account of Jesus giving mobility to the helpless man is found in John 5:1-9. According to Verse 8 in the NKJV, Jesus told the man, "Rise, take up your bed and walk," and he did just that! It's amazing when you consider Jesus simply uttered seven words ("Rise, take up your bed and walk.") and the man was miraculously healed after being a paralytic for almost four decades.
8. Find the match for the number of years Anna had been a widow when she first saw the baby Jesus, as per Luke 2:37. (Some people believe the figure in Scripture is in reference to Anna's age, and not the number of years she had been a widow.)

Answer: 84

The correct answer is eighty-four when it comes to the number of years Anna had been a widow when she first saw the baby Jesus. It must be pointed out some people see things differently. They believe Anna was eighty-four years old when she saw the baby Jesus as the wording in Luke 2:37 leaves some doubt. The verse in the NKJV states, "this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day."

Scripture states after Jesus was presented at the temple by Mary and Joseph, Anna "gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem."

See Luke 2:36-38 for details.
9. Find the match for the number of pieces of silver the books that were burned in Ephesus were valued at. (Acts 19:19)

Answer: 50,000

The correct answer is 50,000. In other words, the books burned in Ephesus were valued at 50,000 pieces of silver, as per the NKJV. (In the NIV, it gives the figure fifty thousand drachmas.)

Meanwhile, the NKJV states the burned books were about magic, while the NIV states the books were about sorcery.

According to Scripture, a number of people who had practised magic, or sorcery, became Christians and they wanted to make a statement to others that they were determined to live an entirely different life.

Acts 19:18-20 explains things this way in the NKJV: "And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed."
10. Find the match for the number of chapters in Revelation, as per the NKJV and the NIV.

Answer: 22

Using the NKJV and the NIV, Revelation has twenty-two chapters. It is the last book in the Christian Bible. John wrote the book after he had a vision while in exile on the island Patmos in the Aegean Sea.

According to Revelation 2 and 3, the book was originally addressed to members of seven different churches in Asia Minor, now known as Turkey. The churches were based in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea.
