Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of years Ahab ruled as king of Israel. (1 Kings 16:29)

Answer: 22

Ahab ruled over Israel for twenty-two turbulent years, as per 1 Kings 16:29. His wife was Jezebel, generally regarded as the most evil woman in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible.

Scripture tells of Ahab and Jezebel worshiping Baal and slaying prophets of God. Despite their frantic efforts, however, they were unable to kill the prophet Elijah.
2. Find the match for the number of stones Joshua set up from the Jordan River. (Joshua 4:3)

Answer: 12

According to Scripture, Joshua set up twelve stones from the Jordan River to commemorate the fact God parted the waters to allow the Israelites to enter Canaan, known as The Promised Land. Each stone represented a tribe of the Israelite nation.

According to Joshua 4:1-24, God instructed Joshua and the Israelites to take twelve stones from the bed of the Jordan River to be used as a memorial to commemorate the miraculous crossing of the river.
3. Find the match for the number of sons of Joseph. (Genesis 41:51-52)

Answer: 2

Joseph and his wife Asenath were the parents of two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

According to Genesis 41:51, Manassah means "For God made me forget all my toil and all my father's house." Meanwhile, Genesis 41:52 states Ephraim means "For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction." In other words, Joseph was enjoying immense fruitfulness, this even though he arrived in Egypt as a slave.

Not much is known about Manassah and Ephraim, as they are largely mentioned in passing reference.
4. Find the match for the number of years God added to the life of Hezekiah. (2 Kings 20:6)

Answer: 15

According to 2 Kings 20:4-5, God added fifteen years on to Hezekiah's life. The prophet Isaiah told Hezekiah, king of Israel, to get his house in order "because you are going to die, you will not recover," as per 2 Kings 20:1. Hezekiah then poured out his heart to the LORD immediately after Isaiah left and Scripture reports the prophet promptly received a message from the LORD. 2 Kings 20:4-5 states the LORD instructed Isaiah to go back to Hezekiah and inform him his prayers had been heard and his tears seen, and that he would be healed. Scripture goes on to report fifteen more years were added to Hezekiah's life.
5. Find the match for the number of wives of Isaac.

Answer: 1

Issac, unlike the two other Israelite patriarchs Abraham and Jacob, had only one wife. He and Rebekah were the parents of twin boys, Jacob and Esau.

Abraham was married to Sarah and after her death he married Keturah. Abraham also fathered a son with Hagar, Sarah's handmaiden.

Meanwhile, Jacob had two wives, Rachel and Leah, as well as two concubines, Zilpah and Bilhah. Zilpah was the handmaiden of Leah and Bilhah the handmaiden of Rachel. According to Scripture, Jacob fathered twelve boys and one girl with the four women.
6. Find the match for the total number of prophets of God Obadiah hid in caves to protect them from King Ahab who was attempting to kill them. (1 Kings 18:4)

Answer: 100

Obadiah hid one hundred prophets of God in two groups of fifty in two caves with some theologians believing he did this because if one group was discovered, the other group would be safe. According to 1 Kings 18:4, Obadiah not only hid the prophets, but he also provided them with food and water. Ironically, Obadiah was the palace administrator for King Ahab, as per 1 Kings 18:3.
7. Find the match for the number of Philistine foreskins David collected to win the hand of King Saul's daughter Michal. (1 Samuel 18:27)

Answer: 200

1 Samuel 18:25 states Saul requested David produce one hundred foreskins to win the hand of his daughter Michal. However, according to Verse 27 of the same chapter, David complied by producing two hundred foreskins and won Michal's hand in marriage.

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Saul requested David to produce one hundred foreskins in the hope he would be killed attempting to reach the goal. David, however, doubled the goal and produced two hundred foreskins without any apparent difficulty.
8. Find the match for the number of years the Israelites would be afflicted in a foreign land, according to Genesis 15:13.

Answer: 400

Genesis 15:13 states the Israelites would be afflicted in a foreign land (Egypt) for a total of four hundred years. According to Scripture, Jacob and his eleven sons ended up moving to Egypt in a time of famine when it was discovered Joseph was the second most powerful man in Egypt.

Joseph, the son of Jacob and Rachel, ended up in Egypt after his brothers sold him into slavery. The account of Joseph being sold into slavery, his ascension to power and the arrival of Jacob and his family in Egypt can be found in chapters 37 through 50 of Genesis.

While the Isrealites were initially welcomed with open arms by the Pharaoh, things changed drastically over the years to the point they were reviled. The lengthy account of their suffering begins in Exodus 1:8 with the verse telling of the ascension of a new king over Egypt "who did not know Joseph".
9. Find the match for the number of chapters in the book of Exodus.

Answer: 40

Exodus consists of forty chapters, and is largely about the Israelites leaving Egypt and wandering in the wilderness for forty years before they arrived in what is referred to as The Promised Land. Jewish and Christian tradition holds the book was written by Moses, the man who led the Israelites during the Exodus. According to Scripture, he was assisted by his brother Aaron and his sister Miriam during the trek out of Egypt and the four-decade-long expedition to the Promised Land. Scripture states Moses, Aaron and Miriam died before the Israelites entered their destination.
10. Find the match for the number of Philistine soldiers Samson killed with the jawbone of a donkey. (Judges 15:15)

Answer: 1,000

Scripture states Samson had immense strength, enabling him to slay one thousand soldiers with only the jawbone of a donkey. Judges 15:14-15 tells of Samson's slaying of the Philistine soldiers.

According to Scripture, Samson was betrayed by his mistress Delilah. When Delilah discovered the secret to Samson's super strength was his long hair, she had his locks cut and delivered the immensely weakened Samson to his enemies, who blinded and imprisoned him. When Samson's hair grew back, his strength was restored and he caused a temple to collapse destroying thousands of Philistines as well as himself, as per Judges 16:23-31. The final verse states Samson ruled Israel for twenty years.
