Answer: Barzillai

According to Scripture, Barzillai was an eighty-year-old Gileadite who showed David and his followers considerable kindness after they had taken refuge in Mahanaim. 2 Samuel 17:27-29 tells of Barzillai, along with Shobi and Ammon, contributing a large number of essential items to David and his people. Scripture states they gave David "bed and basins, earthen vessels and wheat, barley and flour, parched grain and beans, lentils and parched seeds, honey and curds, sheep and cheese of the herd."

Later when the civil war ended with David's side winning, David extended an invitation to Barzillai to move to Jerusalem and he would take care of his needs. However, in 2 Samuel 19:31-30, Barzillai explained his old age prevented him from moving to Jerusalem.

Answer: Exodus

Details about the Ten Commandments are found in the book of Exodus, the second book of both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible. According to Scripture, Moses ascended Mount Sinai, where God gave him the Ten Commandments. For details about the Ten Commandments, see Exodus 20:1-17.

Tradition holds the book of Exodus was written by Moses, but a number of modern day theologians dispute this belief.

Answer: Azariah

Abed-Nego's original Hebrew name was Azariah. According to Daniel 1:7, he was given the name Abed-Nego by the chief of the eunuchs of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. (In the NIV, his name appears as Abednego.)

Scripture states Azariah and his compatriots Mishael (Meshach) and Hananiah (Shadrach) were thrown into a fiery furnace because they refused to bow to an image of Nebuchadnezzar. The three men were not harmed by the flames of the furnace, however.

According to Daniel 3:25, when people looked inside the furnace they saw the three men walking in the midst of the flames and not hurt. What's more, the verse in the NKJV states they saw a fourth form, "like the Son of God".

Answer: Uzzi

Uzzi is the correct answer. However, not much is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference in Nehemiah 12:42-43. According to the verses, fourteen other priests, in addition to Uzzi, were also part of the dedication ceremony. Wikipedia states Uzzi means 'My strength'. No less than five other men shared the name Uzzi in the Old Testament.

Answer: Tola

Tola served as judge of Israel for twenty-three years, according to Judges 10:1-2. Scripture states Tola was the son of Puah and the grandson of Dodo and he lived in Shamir, the hill-country of Ephraim. According to the two verses, Tola "rose to save Israel". After Tola died, he was buried in Shamir.

Answer: Ishmaiah

Ishmaiah is the correct answer with his name appearing in only 1 Chronicles 27:19. Scripture states he was the son of Obadiah and the leader of the Tribe of Zebulun.

There is a second Ishmaiah in the Old Testament. According to 1 Chronicles 12:4, he was a Gibeonite who was one of David's Mighty Warriors.

Answer: forever

The missing word is 'forever'. The verse, of course, is in reference to Christ. It's part of a passage in which the writer of Hebrews states that by Christ's death, He has "perfected forever those who are being sanctified."

Although Hebrews is a popular book in the New Testament, no one knows for certain who wrote it. Some theologians believe Paul was the writer, but others strongly dispute the belief.

Answer: upper

The missing word is 'upper'. The verse is from a passage in which Jesus gives instructions to His disciples to prepare a room in which they would celebrate the Passover. The event has become known as the Last Supper.

Shortly after the Last Supper, Jesus would be betrayed by Judas Iscariot and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. Following this, He would be put on trial in a kangaroo court and then mocked, humiliated, ruthlessly beaten, tortured and crucified. Scripture, however, states He triumphantly rose from the dead three days later and ascended to Heaven after appearing to a large number of people.

Answer: Lot's wife

Lot's wife is the correct answer. One of the best known stories in the Old Testament involves the LORD bringing down fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah because of its wickedness, with Lot and his family fleeing. However, Genesis 19:26 states Lot's wife (no name is given) was turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back, contrary to the LORD's command.

Answer: Beautiful

A number of women are described as beautiful in the Old Testament but no one is described as such in the New Testament. Some of the women described as beautiful in the Old Testament include Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Bathsheba, Abigail, David's daughter Tamar, Vashti, Esther and Job's three daughters -- Jemimah, Keziah and Karen-Happuch.

However, no woman has such a distinction in the New Testament. (The same holds true for men with the likes of David and Saul being described as handsome in the Old Testament, but no one has such a distinction in the New Testament.)

It's apparent the arrival of Jesus ushered in a new order with a person's appearance being of no consequence. The only thing that matters is a heart that loves Christ and is obedient to His teachings.

In Matthew 23:27, in the NKJV, Jesus proclaimed to the mighty and the powerful of the day: "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are filled with dead man's bones and all uncleanness."
